    Upgrading Gen 5 VP V8-300 (300HP) to a V8-350 (350 HP)

Yes, the Regal 28 Express is a single VP with DPS outdrive. I agree that for most cruising, it will not be a major upgrade given the similarity of the HP and torque curves. A 6.2L repower at 380 or 430HP would be more effective. It just seemed like low-hanging fruit given that the hardware is...

    Upgrading Gen 5 VP V8-300 (300HP) to a V8-350 (350 HP)

I came across a similar thread on a Cobalt forum, except for the V-6 variant of these Gen V motors: https://www.cobaltchat.com/viewtopic.php?t=4628

    Upgrading Gen 5 VP V8-300 (300HP) to a V8-350 (350 HP)

One question - are the ECUs for these VP engines computer-coded directly to the individual HINs / engine serial numbers, or could you take a used ECU from another boat and install it with no issue?

    Upgrading Gen 5 VP V8-300 (300HP) to a V8-350 (350 HP)

You mean it wouldn't be possible to buy an ECU with the higher power rating / remapped fuel and ignition curve, separately? They would only sell it as a package with a complete engine? My bet is that it's probably an EPROM inside the ECU case that has all of the maps programmed in it.

    Upgrading Gen 5 VP V8-300 (300HP) to a V8-350 (350 HP)

Attaching the VP spec sheet for both engines. The HP and torque curves appear to be identical until around 4,500 RPM, and then diverge a bit. I believe this is just a different ECU program to deliver more fuel at the higher RPM ranges. Heads, induction and exhaust manifolds/risers are...

    Upgrading Gen 5 VP V8-300 (300HP) to a V8-350 (350 HP)

From everything I've read, including the technical manuals and specifications, the current "Gen 5" Volvo Penta 5.3-liter V8-300 and V8-350 engines and all accessories are EXACTLY the same, save for a different computer control unit that "de-powers" the base engine to 300 HP. If this is indeed...

VP 350 V8 Warning Light (Regal 28 Express)

I have a Garmin GPSMap 742, which is fully integrated with the Volvo EVC system and works nicely. You can custom configure the Garmin's screens to display gauges and information from the Volvo system. It's pretty slick. The 742 is also integrated with the Garmin VHF-110 marine radio in terms...

VP 350 V8 Warning Light (Regal 28 Express)

I think this is exactly what @showar01 experienced. No amber PTA-related MIL and no audible alarms, but the RPMs still reduced. I guess there is no way to initiate a reset/default calibration without the EVC system installed? From what I have read, it is not cheap to have the VP EVC system...

V8 300 will not start showing fault MID 128 SID 5 FMI 14

The Volvo Penta factory diagnostic workshop manual says that code for the V8-300 is "throttle control position (TCP) simultaneous voltages out of range" or very slightly possibly coolant temp out of range.

VP 350 V8 Warning Light (Regal 28 Express)

If you recalibrate the trim (PTA), it removes the warning light and PTA indicator and also will no longer artificially limit the RPM to 3,000. But if you don't have the monitoring screen, then probably best left to a professional as said. I wasn't aware that having that screen was an option -...

VP 350 V8 Warning Light (Regal 28 Express)

Your boat doesn't have this little LCD screen on the lower dashboard? I thought all Regal Express models post-2016 had these. This thread should help you: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/2017-volvo-penta-inboard-check-engine-light-alarm-reduced-rpmwe.722655/ You need to re-calibrate your...

VP 350 V8 Warning Light (Regal 28 Express)

You can reset the trim yourself - it's an easy process on a Regal 28 Express with the Volvo V8-300 or 350 engines. You do it via the small LCD Volvo Penta engine monitoring screen to the left of the steering wheel and ahead of the throttle control. Takes all of a couple of mins. This will...
