towed the old barge home and noticed drive lube leaking out of weep hole in lower unit.. not a good sign.. pulled drive and pressure tested.. didn't hold pressure and could hear air leaking out around shaft..

okay so if i am looking at the head and cyl 1 is to my left.. and 7 on my right which is the intake and which is the exhaust valve?
does it go
cly 1 - intake left - exhaust right

took her out for the 3rd time since dropping in the reman 260.. vacuum still solid at 20+ at ~670 rpm..
but. got kind of a clunking sound from the front of the engine.. sounded...
I have a 1981 Century Cuddy 4000 21ft 2,600lb boat 40 gallon fuel tank.. usually just have 4-5 people on board at most.. run the boat on lake michigan ... dont have much gear otherwise..

Can somebody confirm which part #s should be between the transom plate and the rear engine mount?
Does it go 7,8,9 on top of rear mount 10,11 in between mount and transom plate.. then 12 on the bottom there..

got the reman fired up.. got it to correct idle 700 rpm.. and got timing set dead on last night.. vacuum at 18 and steady
noticed as i perhaps too gradually throttled up the engine would bog down and hesitate around...

i thought it was just a battery thing.. but batteries are fully charged and i still get no spark from the coil.. coil is a new flame thrower II.. it worked prior to what i thought was my batteries going dead..

the merc manual says the carb on on that thing should be a rochester qjet manu# 17057298... when i ordered my reman carb last year i requested that manu#..
i just checked out the reman and it is manu# 7027157.. found that # on a site and looks like its for a 1968...
1982 merc 260 .. mallory dist.
the rotor has a good bit of wiggle or side to side play on top of the shaft.. this wiggle is without the shaft moving.. so its just the rotor..
is this normal? ive heard from one person that it isnt.. but nothing really really conclusive..
pertronix suggests bypassing the resistor wire to the coil.. i have read some that said they ran a wire from the ignition switch? Is that a proper way to bypass the resistor? What other specific points could be used to tie in to the 12v from ignition?
