    1977 Evinrude 35hp Corrosion

Yeah between the scoring and loss of gasket surface I probably won’t try any kind of rebuild. It’s has pretty much all of the parts so I may pull the 1978 motor apart to see why it’s low on compression and maybe make a good motor out of it. Is there anything to flush through them that is known...

    1977 Evinrude 35hp Corrosion

I run my motors in salt and brackish water only. What is the best maintenance for an old E-rude/ Johnson after every use to prevent this corrosion?

    1977 Evinrude 35hp Corrosion

It definitely appears to have been in salt water and I live on the coast of MS so I’d be surprised if it hasn’t. Would I be better using parts I need then parting it out?

    1977 Evinrude 35hp Corrosion

I just picked up 3 E-rude/ Johnson 35hp motors. I paid $250 for them and other parts were included. One is a 1983 in good shape. The others are 78 and 77 with low compression. I just pulled the head off of the 1977 because it is a complete motor and in better shape than the 78. I had plans...

    Losing a cylinder

Well it’s been about half a year since I’ve messed with the motor. Replacing the CDI I believe fixed the problem but it had more problems than I wanted to fix so I’ll be using it as a parts motor. I greatly appreciate the advice and help.

    Losing a cylinder

Yes a few of the coils are a little loose. I don’t see any damage to them. Can a little play in them cause problems?

    Losing a cylinder

I don’t think that it is the head because of the inconsistency of how it happens could be wrong though. Will let y’all know when I start replacing parts if it fixes anything. I think it is a good idea to go ahead and swap those parts( coils, cdi, and stator etc.) just to be sure.

    Losing a cylinder

90% sure it isn’t fuel carb is clean/rebuilt, reed valves are good fuel pump is good. I honestly don’t know what I’m doing with timing but will do research. It runs good at any speed/ temp. I’ve had it do it right off the bat (a minute or two into ride after a little warm up) and I’ve seen it...

    Losing a cylinder

Well there are two different coils on there and they both look really rough ones about rusted out cause they both went underwater I think. I’m almost certain the rest of the electronics were on it when it sank.

    Losing a cylinder

I’ll try to find a gap testers but I’ve already done a lot to the motor like starter and carb. I’ll probably put new coils new cdi and maybe new stator on soon If I can find decent reasonable prices. Thanks for the advice

    Losing a cylinder

I have a 1978 Evinrude 35hp that I got a few months ago. It was seized when I got it (later to find out it had sunk) but got it freed up and has 95 psi in to cylinder and 93 in bottom. When I crank it it runs fine but a few minutes into ride it losses a cylinder at full throttle. I have to...
