    Possible lower unit damage?

I did see they had some good prices for new lower units, I might go that route instead. And yes I did put a new seal on the prop shaft as well as new seals on the bearing carrier. I’ll have to test a lower PSI

    Possible lower unit damage?

At this point I’m thinking of just buying a used lower unit and replacing completely. I’ve found a few used online that would be worth the money. How do I tell what size shaft it is? Is it a measurement of the actual driveshaft? I’ve removed my lower unit, here’s a picture

    Possible lower unit damage?

Freshwater only motor and yes removed the 2 retaining bolts and am pulling with 2 long threaded rods screwed into the threaded holes with my gear puller. The puller just wants to spin off of my prop shaft because of the amount of force it’s needing

That’s my next issue, I’m trying to get the bearing carrier out but my gear puller is having a hard time getting it out.

    Possible lower unit damage?

Ohhh, I understand now. It wasn’t storage oil that was leaking out. It was definitely green gear oil.

    Possible lower unit damage?

I also just did the pressure test and when pumping 20 PSI into the gear case, after about 5 seconds I can hear hissing coming out of the area behind the prop. Is this a sign of a leak?

    Possible lower unit damage?

Yes, when I winterized I pumped new oil in from the bottom fill screw until it came out of the top screw. But I’m confused on your comment, shouldn’t the oil not be able to leak out in any way?

    Possible lower unit damage?

I have a bass boat with a 150hp outboard. Last season I had to do a tear down on the lower unit and reseal the gear case after I noticed water dripping out of the gear oil drain screw. After I did the reseal, the boat ran great for the whole summer. There was no sign of water getting into the...

Any idea where to buy a storage pouch like this??

Was curious if anybody knows where to find an open pouch like this that can be mounted upright. I’m not even sure what to call this thing, but have searched around for an hour and couldn’t find anything similar. It’s mostly just to cover the open hole that exposes my gas tank in between my two...

    Driveshaft will pull out

Success! I was able to fit a file in between the clutch dog and drive shaft and after a few taps on the prop shaft she popper right out. Thank you so much for your help.

    Driveshaft will pull out

I have a 1994 Johnson Fast strike 150hp V6 outboard and I am trying to do some work on my lower unit. Disassembling everything has been somewhat smooth so far, but I am stuck on removing the driveshaft from the pinion gear. I removed the locknut, and all the videos I’ve seen say you should be...

Water in lower unit oil/ oil leaking

I definitely want to give it a shot on my own, I hate to admit it but I actually enjoy the struggle lol I live in New England and we’ve had weeks below freezing here for the past few months which has me worried after seeing the water in the GC. The boat was stored outside through most of the winter.

Water in lower unit oil/ oil leaking

Is this something I should attempt myself?? I am somewhat mechanically inclined and interested but I know that taking apart/ rebuilding the lower unit requires a lot of specialized tools. Is it worth just taking it into a shop?
