Could I have pooched a part of my ignition system?

Well, got it started. Rotor tip was crusty so cleaned that. Shined up the distributor cap contact points, fully charged battery. Took one plug out to check spark. While doing so it sputtered. Plug back in, turned it over, sputtered a bot and off she went! Ran rough a bit then idled smoothly...

Could I have pooched a part of my ignition system?

I read leaving key on for too long can cook points. Thought maybe many starts, like 30+ in an hour might do it. Anyway, will test them today

Could I have pooched a part of my ignition system?

1977 Mercruiser 140 with Pertronics Ignitor II points. So we jig for salmon and while trying to stay on top of bait ball, we started the engine probably 40 times in a row to try and stay in one place. On last start my brother said it did a "wugga shugga, whacka CHOW!" and stalled. Tried turning...

Fuel Gauge making full, even with no power.

UPDATE Turns out the gauge part was a loose ground behind the fuel gauge. Also, initially, the gauge needle was stuck all the way forward and I tapped it and it went back down. The wiper and bilge pump was me mucking around back there, in the dark, and disconnected wires by accident. Got back...

Sorry, I meant a short to ground. I was poking around behind the consloe, moving wires around. I must created a short somewhere.

Fuel Gauge making full, even with no power.

UPDATE So the fuel gauge dropped back down when I tapped it (with power completely off, not just key). Needle was stuck. HOWEVER… now this is the problem. As soon as I turn battery power on (key still off), the fuel gauge goes to the max. Now the bilge pump and wiper don’t work and the fuel and...

Fuel Gauge making full, even with no power.

ADDED INFO. Before getting new sender, I "tested" the console gauge by running a wire between the ground wire and the sender wire at the sending unit, Gauge jumped to full then back down when I removed connection. Could I have fried the fuel gauge at the console?

Fuel Gauge making full, even with no power.

So fuel sending unit failed. Replaced with new. Now fuel gauge reads FULL, past the full line, all the time, even with power completely off. Not just key, power off at battery switch. I can’t seem to find info online for causes. Thanks in advance for any help. Wayne.

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

Is it possible by sucking everything out of tank, junk included, this (red) part of the fuel filter is clogged? I see that this type of anti siphon valve is screwed into this part of the assembly? (Green area)

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

It has not primed yet. I think i found the location of the anti siphon valve. I believe it’s at the intake of the fuel filter. As mentioned, sucking it dry maybe pulled ALL debris towards filter and buggered the anti siphon

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

Where would I find this valve? Is that at the intake of the line going from tank to filter/pump?

100% out of gas. We took the fuel sending unit off to service it, and the tank was bone dry.

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

I removed the hose from the filter to tank, so straight line to tank. Blew into it, heard bubbling in tank. Light siphon and gas filled my mouth in about a second. So clear from tank to filter.

Trying to diagnose fuel supply issue after running out of gas

I suspect it did collapse due to suction after emptying tank. I will replace.
