    Tune up problem

The motor on this boat was replaced with a truck motor by the previous owner, so I’m not absolutely certain whether it’s a 1990 motor. But it most certainly has an electric fuel pump. I’ve had a lot of work done in a shop bringing this motor up to marine standards including changing out the...

    Tune up problem

1990 4.3 mercruiser alpha 1 gen 1 , Bluewater Executive Cuddy Ive been troubleshooting fuel flow issues and have that resolved thanks to another thread here by testing the fuel pump power line to the oil pressure switch while running. I had a loose connection at that switch that was shutting...

Mercruiser 4.3L TKS 2BBL Carburetor Engine Sporadic Behavior

This has been very helpful… I’ve been pulling my hair out on the same issue and was about ready to tear into the carburetor…. I’m going to test for this myself tomorrow… thanks! Kirk

    1989 Mercruiser 4.3 LX, Alpha 1 Gen 1 Overheating

I’ve read though this whole thread and it seems a bit strange that you are more concerned about repainting things than simply replacing the impeller and water pump housing. I think that would be the first thing I did with an overheating issue. It’s a 30 minute job and $40 worth of parts… I would...

    1996 4.3L V6 Mercruiser - max @ 1200rpm

This may sound really basic…. But have you checked your throttle cable out? Maybe disconnect the cable and run the throttle by hand and see what happens…. When I first got my old 1990 boat with the same motor, I had to replace the throttle cable going to the remote. Just a thought.

    Alpha One Shift Adjustment

Are you running the motor with ear muffs while you adjust this? Or just with the motor off? It does make a difference adjusting cables being in the water with the prop under a load. I set mine at factory specs and ran muffs while the engine was running and it needed adjustment. Went into...

    Alpha One Shift Adjustment

Did you check how smooth the lower shift cable works before doing you adjustments? If it’s stiff and hard to shift just using two fingers you lower shift cable either needs to be replaced, or lubed…. I just went through the same thing with mine, and those cable tolerances sound good, but that...

    Another electric fuel pump issue

I’ve seen several posts on fuel pump issues, and I believe I’m having one myself. 1990 4.3 Mercruiser stock 2 barrel carb (carb 2 years old and runs perfectly) I was originally having issues with the shift interrupter switch that was not functioning properly and sticking, but after tinkering...

    Winterizing your Mercruiser

I know this subject is a bit premature for the time of year it is, but being a new boat owner, and never having had to maintain an inboard motor, I’m just looking ahead a bit and doing some research. I'm in wester Oregon , just south of Portland. So we rarely get seriously cold winters. But...

Trailer brakes vs boat and trailer weight question

I’m new to having a real boat with some weight to it. I just purchased a 19’ Blue Water with a 4.3 mercruiser I/O that weighs in the neighborhood of 2500-2800 pounds plus the tandem axle trailer. The wiring is funky and needs to be redone, and trailer lights not working at all. I don’t even...

    Gel coat help

I’ve got a situation I need some help with. I was buffing out the gelcoat on this old boat and found out somebody hollywooded the dad burn thing ..... there was obviously some serious gouges in the side of it at some time in the past, and someone decided to bondo and paint it to match rather...
