    2003 Mercury 9.9 4 stroke (323 cc) bogging

Final update in this one: because this will be asked many times: yes, you can absolutely upgrade a 2002 Mercury 4 stroke 9.9 to 15hp with a carb swap. The displacement is 323cc on the 8, 9.9, and 15. The timing is the same, the exhaust is the same, but the carburetor has a bigger Venturi...

    Parts Manual - 2003 Mercury 9.9/15 HP

Thank you, Sea Rider! I'll check the service manual, and make the proper adjustments. I'm assuming that the carburetor I just ordered from iboats.com is OEM, and that I'll be able to get rebuild kits when the time comes?

Thank you. I really appreciate it.

    Parts Manual - 2003 Mercury 9.9/15 HP

Please keep in mind...I'm not being lazy, or purposely difficult. I don't mind doing research. The Factory Service Manual for this engine doesn't even mention exhaust components, and I can't find the proper parts manual, so it's tough to do this, in my current situation, out here in the...

    Parts Manual - 2003 Mercury 9.9/15 HP

I know that. However, any IC Engine is nothing more than an air pump. And the 323cc 4 stroke engine is sold as an 8, 9.9, and 15HP engine. It's just de-tuned for the lower horse powers. I know that the air throughput is the cheapest way to de-tune, and realize the carbs are different. I'd...

    Parts Manual - 2003 Mercury 9.9/15 HP

Thank you, but I still can't see anything that relates to the exhaust. I guess they just don't carry those parts.

    Parts Manual - 2003 Mercury 9.9/15 HP

I don't see anything that describes anything but the fuel system and electrical system.

    Parts Manual - 2003 Mercury 9.9/15 HP

Hello. I've been trying to find an online parts manual for the Mercury 9.9 4 stroke, and the 15HP 4 stroke. I'm trying to identify the parts differences between the two, for a conversion. I know that the carb is different, but suspect I need to change exhaust porting as well. They're both...

    M40C Timing

Just wanted to give an update. The motor started running OK, and I just sold it. I'd rather fish than work on the engine, and this one seemed to need more care than I want to spend on it. :) Thanks for all your help with this Sea Rider!

Can somebody point me to the correct factory manual for my motor? Thank you!

    2003 Mercury 9.9 4 stroke (323 cc) bogging

update: I removed the carburetor again, disassembled it, and put it in my Hornady Ultrasonic cleaner with the regular reloading brass cleaner. Ran it heated on the long cycle. I rinsed it all out with water, went through every passage on everything that looked like it moved gas, reassembled...

    2003 Mercury 9.9 4 stroke (323 cc) bogging

Ok, This is not a gas tank issue, so I thought it wise to start a new thread. so this engine is getting frustrating. I replaced the gas tank, the primer bulb/fuel line, and went ahead and put fresh fuel lines on (the old ones were mushy), and replaced the fuel filter. Just to refresh, I was...

    Fuel tank venting?

Thanks. I’ve just never seen a vent like that before. It’s not a new tank. Just the first time I’ve used it. I got it in an outboard deal, but it’s been sitting for quite awhile. I assume that metal knob is supposed to turn?

    Fuel tank venting?

So I was out today, with a merc 9.9 4 stroke that wouldn’t stay running. I noticed that the bulb needed to be repumped, and saw that hoses seemed to be collapsing before the fuel pump. I have never used this particular tank before and am confused as to whether or not the tank vents! It’s an...

Mercury 9.9 4 stroke long to short

Hello! I’ve been over in the Tohatsu room for quite awhile, and it’s time to start on this Merc. I’ve got a 2003 Mercury 9.9 manual start long shaft, and I’m wondering if there’s a way to make it a short shaft? It doesn’t look like it’s too terrible of a job, but I’m no mercury mechanic, so I...

    M40C Timing

Ok, I rewrapped it, and it sounds about right now! Thanks. I’ll change the hoses when they come in, and let you know what happens.
