1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear lol I figured I'd check with the experts before I did anything. Do you think when I reattach the strakes I should run a bead of 5200 down them? It would help fill in any area where the strake sits off of the hull where the patches are too.

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

I don't have a pic for you because I get home from work after dark, I'll try to get one this weekend. The holes though in the general area of the dots and theres another one on the port side strake

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

I'm at a stand still while I try to figure out how to go forward. At the very edges of the strakes there was a few spots where the corrosion went through the hull, I don't know what the best way to fix it would be. Should I make a patch underneath the strake then fill the inside of the hole with...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

I have plates for the backside where I'm moving the drain plug to center, I figured the plate would cover the old holes that are there from the the old drain plug and the livewell intake. I also have a plate for the the bottom side of the knee brace on the outside of the hull because of the...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

Had to adjust course a bit...There was a good bit of corrosion on the underside of the boat that I wanted to clean up and address before I continued on with replacing the rivets on the ribs. I got the boat flipped over in the driveway, removed the 3 ribs (not sure what to call them) that run...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

Here are some less than ideal pictures for you guys, tried to snap a few before the rain came in. The bow section all cleaned up except for a few rivets near where the original yellow sealant is. The black stuff is the jb weld sanded smooth except for on the ribs (I forgot). It starting to...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

One other question is when I go to attach the 3 floor supports to the ribs should I be using open end or closed end rivets? I'm thinking open so that any water that gets in them will just drain out but figured I'd ask the experts before I order anything

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

The rivets have been flying the past few days, the entire bow section is cleaned up and riveted back together with the exception of a few rivets. I'm waiting on a package of longer rivets (1/2" for the sections where there's 3 sheets of aluminum plus the layer of foam in between) to finish up...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

I'm finally back after one of the most chaotic years of my life, not much has gotten done to the boat in the past year due to time restraints and my riveting partner (dad) being laid up all summer with a broken ankle but I'm slowly starting to get back into it. I think the last update I gave...

Are you planning on sanding down the marine tex on the hull? the previous owner of my boat did a few patch jobs with what looks like bondo and never sanded it down, water crept under it at the edges of his "feathering" and caused a good bit of corrosion

I've been using the wire wheels from harbor freight to clean the inside of the hull. You can buy like 3 or 4 of them for the price of the ones at the big box stores and honestly i think they last 3 or 4 times longer.....go figure huh. I haven't been a big fan of the actual cup style wire...

    1976 22' SUS O/B "Hydration Break"

Man do I wish that my hull was in that good of condition. It's funny that you mention the steel nuts may be coming from inside the ribs because I've been removing all of mine to check for corrosion underneath and the amount of steel hardware that has been under them is unbelievable. Looking...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

Sorry I had it backwards!! You are right...good catch. And I agree the modifieds (bigger head) are better to use everywhere where space isnt a limiting factor

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

I've been using both, I'm pretty sure from starcraft they're all brazier head. Along the panel seems where the rivets are staggered I have had to alternate between brazier and modified brazier because the heads on the modifieds overlap in some spots so they don't sit flush. Where there is...

I bought a X4 rivet gun from ats and it works flawlessly. I went with the X4 because there is a fair amount of 1/4" rivets I'll be doing. I think it was $200 but for the amount of rivets I have to do it was for sure worth the price. No regrets. I don't like the rivet sets I got from though...

1982 Starcraft Center Console 18' Rebuild

Quick update on the project and a couple questions I have. All paint stripping is now done inside and out, I really like the citrustrip that I have been using because it doesn't smell terrible while working indoors. I wish I knew from the beginning to cover it with plastic wrap to keep it wet...

I had styrofoam all over the place in mine too except in that box under the console. my floor had been replaced before though and the console removed so it probably came out then. I was hoping that box had a purpose haha
