    I can remember late 70s OMC school in Miami working on the 800 with hydro shift. They should have stayed with it. All the switches and shift interruption caused more headaches. The Cobra would have much better with the hydro system.

    It appears that your carburetor is good for the time being. Do as AD suggested. If it still does not want to return to idle then try checking the distributor. Take a picture of your distributor so I can tell you how to check it.

    If your original engine was a 2 piece rear main seal with a larger crankshaft bolt pattern the coupler could machined down to fit the newer small bolt pattern. I have had this happen a few times replacing freeze damaged engines. Any machine shop should be able to do this job.
