I am mounting a 115 merc on a 17 ft fibreglass runabout. Will 1/4 aluminum be a good material too use as a backer plate between the motor and transom? And as a plate for the bolts to go through on the inside of the transom?.

I am working on my boat project, and i need to mount my trim pump somewhere. It's an old trim pump for a 79 merc, 115. Anything i need to take into account before mounting it? I was thinking of attaching it directly to the inside of the transom, do I need a bracket for this?
