Which spark wire set for Chevy 5.7, with 90 deg. boots each end?

Trying to find a wire set to fit my 350 Mag MPI Horizon. However I just replaced the distributor so now have a female socket type of cap. My usual marine supplier could not help me. I have been on Summit Racing, they have sets that could work, but are all made by Sierra. Now that Sierra...

What Chevy engine is my 2006 350 MAG MPI Horizon?

Okay, thanks Scott. I was going by the info on Wikipedia. I am always trying to understand where and how to buy parts without paying the high Mercuriser prices.

What Chevy engine is my 2006 350 MAG MPI Horizon?

I check the intake manifold, and it uses 4 bolts per head. So it is the L31 engine. Thanks for all the above tips.

Looking for a different distributor than my crab cat dist.

New distributor almost in. I forgot to bring a long screwdriver to rotate the oil pump, so one more trip. I Also need wires with 90 degree ends. The current wires are long enough, but water would run down the insulation into the wire end and start corrosion. The Pertronix is much heavier...

Looking for a different distributor than my crab cat dist.

That Dorman part is very slick. For me, it was the small screws holding the rotor in place. I should have tapped for a 8-32. But now I have a new billet distributor coming from Summit Racing. No more expensive crab caps.

Okay, mine appears to be a L31 model engine. Will check more when back at the boat.

What Chevy engine is my 2006 350 MAG MPI Horizon?

No particular parts at this time, thank you. However knowing the engine model will help me in the future. May do a rebuild next spring. I redid the heads with Manley stainless valves two years ago, but power seems down and the motor has 2,000 hours on it. Will do a compression test soon. If...

What Chevy engine is my 2006 350 MAG MPI Horizon?

I suspect it might be an LT1, however for many parts I believe it is compatible with engines used in 2001 C/K 2500 trucks. If so, it would not be the LT1. It is a 5.7 with a roller cam. Serial number s#OM675521.

Looking for a different distributor than my crab cat dist.

Okay, just checked ebay for used TB distibutors, $150-200. Not worth it when I can buy a new dist. for $200-$300, and the new one is much simpler. Notice that some distributors have iron gears, and some have steel drive gears. From what I can determine, OEM used an iron gear, but I might use...

Looking for a different distributor than my crab cat dist.

I thought that section of aluminum was 3/8" thick, so I tried the helicoil. To oversize now I would need a #10 screw. I should have just kept it simple, and tapped one size up as you suggested. I just tried drilling the rotor out for a #10 screw. The screw head was too large to fit the recess.

Looking for a different distributor than my crab cat dist.

On the tapping, I tried installing a helicoil, but the aluminum was very thin, about 1/8". Timing should not be a problem, this engine has a CP sensor. I just have to make sure the rotor is lined up with right contact. The crab cap has some issues such as very expensive caps, plus laterally...

Looking for a different distributor than my crab cat dist.

Any recommendations? I have a stripped screw holding the rotor in place, so this would be a good time to swap in a different distributor than my crab cap one. Engine is the Merc. 350 Mag MPI Horizon, 2006. The ignition system is 100% electronic, computer controlled. I have lots of vertical...

5.7 Vortec dist, trying to seal the cap/rotor due to constant corrosion. Merc 350 Mag MPI Horizon.

Oil pan has quite a bit of clearance, and I run the pumps on manual override often. So far the oil pan is rust free.

5.7 Vortec dist, trying to seal the cap/rotor due to constant corrosion. Merc 350 Mag MPI Horizon.

Even if the weather is mild, when we wash down the deck with saltwater it goes in the bilge. In September I went albacore fishing, we caught 400 lbs. of albacore in two days. Lots of deck wash water drained to the bilge, but I run the pumps often to keep the bilge as dry as is possible. If...

5.7 Vortec dist, trying to seal the cap/rotor due to constant corrosion. Merc 350 Mag MPI Horizon.

I recently installed some weatherstrip at the engine cover. This appears to be helping, however there are always a 2-3 gallons of saltwater present in the bilge under the engine. I believe moisture through out the engine compartment seeps in under the cap. Engine uses the "crab cap". A paper...

5.7 Vortec dist, trying to seal the cap/rotor due to constant corrosion. Merc 350 Mag MPI Horizon.

I have an older boat where the deck water drains into the bilge. Due to the high moisture in the engine area, and that it is in saltwater for months at a time, the distributor contacts corrode quickly. My current method to keep the engine running smoothly is to clean the contacts with a soft...

350 Mag MPI intermittent rough running.

I tried swapping an automotive TPS, but the indexing tab was in a slightly different location than in the Merc. TPS. After reinstalling the original TPS, engine ran almost perfect. Chased blue fin tuna for much of Monday, trolled for hours, the engine went back to 600 rpm each time. I suspect...

350 Mag MPI intermittent rough running.

I trolled all day for bluefin tuna, engine ran great at 600 rpm for hours at a time. But after cruising for even a few minutes it would not come down to idle/600 rpm. When it stays at the 800+ rpm, definitely is running rich. Will be replacing the TPS and the ECT temp sensor as soon as I have...
