DLC Location 2007 Sea Ray Sundeck w 350 mag mpi

My son got me the Techmate Pro for Christmas. If he wasn’t 30 I’d ground him for spending his money so foolishly 😏 Actually I was really touched, it’s a very professional tool and it looks like Mercury uses the same thing with their name slapped on it. I’ve been scratching my head and straining...

DLC Location 2007 Sea Ray Sundeck w 350 mag mpi

Do you disconnect the depth transducer to connect the scan tool to the DLC connector?

DLC Location 2007 Sea Ray Sundeck w 350 mag mpi

I’ve got a Sea Ray 2007 Sundeck 240 w 350 mag mpi engine/bravo3 outdrive. ECM module is 0501, engine SN is OW665845. I’m looking for the DLC connector on the engine, just wondering where it’s located and the type of pin configuration. Thanks

    Mercruiser 3.7/470 Overheat Problem

Thanks Kenny, that’s the direction I’m leaning. There’s a local machine shop that will rework the head for $350. The mechanic is familiar with the 470 and they do a lot of engine work so I’m pretty confident they’ll do a good job. The water hose in the bell housing probably has ten years or...

    Mercruiser 3.7/470 Overheat Problem

A little more info, I just tried it at 2000 rpm, I’m able to almost completely stop the flow with my thumb. It does pump water through, almost a gallon in about thirty seconds

    Mercruiser 3.7/470 Overheat Problem

When I remove the hose from the heat exchanger inlet and put my thumb over it I get a little water squirting past my thumb, very similar to what you would have if you put your thumb over a garden hose. This is running at idle rpm

    Mercruiser 3.7/470 Overheat Problem

Thanks Kenny, I’ll try the hose check and see if that works

    Mercruiser 3.7/470 Overheat Problem

I have an old 470 which I’ve had since new, 39 years ago. It is overheating after running at cruising rpm, say 3500 or so after a few minutes. I’ve replaced the thermostat, sea water pump, and cleaned the heat exchanger. There is water flowing through the exhaust ports and exhaust at the bottom...

About to go insane about my 470!!

Make sure the gasket thickness at fuel pump mounting surface is the same as what was removed. If you aren’t sure, use a mercruiser gasket, that should have the correct thickness. Best thing is to check the fuel pressure if you can Also this could be mechanical advance related, clean that up if...

Mercruiser 470 runs rough after 15 Minutes

Thanks, I’ve checked it as engine is warming up and when I’ve had the problem I pulled the flame arrestor and it was open.

Mercruiser 470 runs rough after 15 Minutes

Just an update, there was no filter on the fuel suction tube, but the tube appeared clean with no debris. I tried the timing light, but couldn’t find anything conclusive when the problem would occur. With the engine running, I checked my voltages again in the low tension coil circuit, I was only...

Mercruiser 470 runs rough after 15 Minutes

Great ideas, thanks! I just bypassed the resistive wire with a resistor and there was no change. I’ll double check with a voltmeter as suggested and I think I’ll try to start it with the starting wire to the coil removed, then run it and see if that changes anything I’ll try the timing light as...

Mercruiser 470 runs rough after 15 Minutes

I have a 1985 Searay with an I/O 470, mercruiser 2bbl (170). I installed a SEI 106 out drive about 20 hours ago, last November. The boat start and runs well cold or warm. It accelerates smoothly and idles just fine, shifting seems to working well. After about 15 to 20 minutes at cruising speed...

Brain fart while removing Alpha drive

On or off the drive needs to be in forward so the the shift shaft will slide in or out of the shoe in the bell housing. You may have gotten lucky. it’s easy to have a brain fart in the heat of battle, I’ve come close to making that mistake myself.

Mercruiser 470 Cam Seals 1985 Sea Ray Monaco 185

The whole project took me around 25 hours including the removal and installation of the stern drive unit. It was actually kind of a fun project, but you need some time to do it. Someone suggested about 4 hours on a previous thread, no way! Also don’t forget to use a drop of high strength...

Mercruiser 470 Cam Seals 1985 Sea Ray Monaco 185

I changed both drain plugs on the heat exchanger since they were easy to get at and I had the coolant drain out anyway. I put them in and the lowered the engine to the starting position with the adjusting stud. I put the lower nut and jam nut back on, leaving them loose until I checked the...

Mercruiser 470 Cam Seals 1985 Sea Ray Monaco 185

I put the hose connector cover on and torqued it to fifteen lbs and cracked the cover in the process. Fortunately I had another cover that came with the impeller cover I got on eBay, so after another gasket cleaning drill I put this one on and just tightened it to what felt right and it hasn’t...

Mercruiser 470 Cam Seals 1985 Sea Ray Monaco 185

I ordered a gasket kit from Mercury prior to starting this and I used Permatex Aviation gasket instead of perfect seal on all the mating surfaces as I believe others have done. My timing cover went on easily, I tried to be careful to get it on evenly. Once it was in place the cam seals appeared...

Mercruiser 470 Cam Seals 1985 Sea Ray Monaco 185

My chain tensioner was worn pretty bad so I replaced it with a less worn one I found on eBay. The timing chain and gears seemed other were in good shape. The exposed oil pan gasket was fairly intact and there was no gasket material on the timing cover, so I was more fortunate than others as far...
