Can i cut my bunks down?

For a boat, 6-7% is probably OK. The 10% is more for things like travel trailers with large frontal areas and large flat sides. 10% on a boat trailer won't hurt, but a bit less won't hurt either. If you get below 6%, that's usually when the trailer starts getting squirrelly at speed.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

Looks like the fiberglass hull (outermost layer, 1/4”-3/8” thick) has delaminated from the plywood transom core. Is not the inner layer fiberglassed plywood?

    Price

The price of a boat - especially a 25 year old boat - is going to be highly dependent on your region. In my area, where there are less boating opportunities and thus fewer boats, prices tend to be a good bit higher than in areas with plentiful lakes and a lively boat market. The main...

Swap drives from one boat to another. How many day project?

I think I used bellows adhesive to secure the gasket in the gimbal housing. It worked quite well.

What gives with helping people with a problem ?????????????

Folks who are actual participants on these boards are much better with posting the resolution. The drive-by posters who come just to have a single question answered often do not come back and either say thanks or post the resolution to their problem. I think the latter just don’t have any...

    Winch replacement suggestions

I agree with most of the other comments: go up a size or two in the winch and get a strap. I'll never go back to a cable; in a year or two, cable starts popping out small metal strands that puncture your skin. Also, in the (highly) unlikely event of a failure, I'd much rather have a 2" wide...

What thinketh the membership here..... Useful or just hype

@SkaterRace said "It was done that way to handle the larger boats that go in and out there even though 90% are smaller ones." We really need him to return to answer, but it sounds like a poorly designed ramp/dock.

What thinketh the membership here..... Useful or just hype

I think what he means is that the ramp and the dock are parallel to one another, but the dock is offset about 3' from the edge of the ramp, meaning that even if he angled his boat to be right on the edge of the ramp, he's still 3' from the dock.

    Y pipe

Rarely is it a good idea to fill the bilge with water. It doesn’t replicate the pressure on the underwater parts when the boat is in the water, and all it does is get water inside the boat where it should not be.

    Folding dock cleats

    Those should be perfect, then.

    Folding dock cleats

We've been using these on our dock at the lake cabin. They work pretty well and they are much less likely to catch a toe. I don't think they're as strong as regular dock cleats, so if I had a very large boat and lived in an area prone to bad storms or heavy seas, I'm not sure I'd trust them them...

    Transom

The cost of having that work done by others would be prohibitive and would probably more than the boat is worth. That's why so many of us have done the work ourselves; the only cost is materials/tools/personal protection equipment. Unless the '84 Glastron has some serious sentimental value to...

Iemand ervaring met Teak Foam Decking mat

Are you considering foam (e.g., EVA) or HPL (high pressure laminate)? If you're referring to HPL, I'd make darn sure it's rated for exterior/marine use.

    Bow and Cockpit Tonneau Covers

Adding snaps is a snap. Not difficult at all, either on the covers or on the boat.

Bought my first boat to tinker on. Looking for advice

Nothing wrong with exploring options… @TripleJGraffis , keep asking your questions.

    2000 Stingray 190 RX Restoration

Did your friend transfer the title to you also, so you legally own it? If not, I‘d hold off spending any money on the boat.

    Can’t get outdrive fully seated

Unless alignment is really bad, when you get that close it seems like it's either the shift shoes aren't lined up, the O-rings were lubed too heavy or the splines are not lining up. First thing I'd try is to rotate the prop just a bit while pushing in on the drive. If you're that close to having...

    Bayliner Trophy Bilge pump question

If I was only a trailer boater, I would not bother with a second pump. If you keep your boat in the water, even only for a few days/weeks at a time, then a second bilge pump is cheap peace of mind.

Towing Boston Whaler 130 with Honda CRV

The frontal and side areas of a travel trailer/horse trailer/utility trailer are very different that of boats, which is why those kinds of trailers require more tongue weight.

Towing Boston Whaler 130 with Honda CRV

With a boat, greater than 10% is not necessary. Maybe if you''re pulling a heavy utility trailer or travel trailer, but 7%-10% is fine for a boat.
