    Thru hull exhaust conversion

We converted our boat to thru hull, but left the y pipe in place so we can convert it back when we want it quiet. I got some rubber caps to block off either the y pipe or the tips, whichever is not in use. Anyway, I have a few questions. Should the tips be tight in their holes, or should we...

Replacing cooling parts in Alpha 1 Outdrive

The drivetrain is a 1988 MerCruiser 5.7L 260HP Alpha 1. I am replacing the impeller housing and parts. Last time I did it was last season, and I want to do it again for peace of mind. I did it last season because it had overheated and was way over due. I put it together with a part I was a...

    Marine carb vs. Automotive carb.

Alright, this is a very interesting topic to me. As my 350 MerC needs a carb (leaky Q Jet), I have been delving into this topic and received many mixed signals. Some say don't dare put an auto carb in a boat, some say it's the same thing just richen it up. I understand boats are under vastly...

1988 Alpha One 350 engine wiring diagram

Anyone have one? I have a mystery wire... It's small gauge, maybe 14-16, near the port riser coming out of the harness with a 6" or so lead. It goes toward the distributor pad, and has a tiny eyelit on the end. It's a little black wire, maybe a ground? Any info or a diag would be great, thanks!

350 MerCruiser SBC smoking and erratic vac

This is a completely stock 260 HP MerCruiser (SBC) in an '88 Baja. It runs great - pulls skiiers up no prob, does 60 MPH, super smooth, planes in seconds, just a little rough and smokey at idle. The engine is obviously old, but looks really clean on the outside and has fairly low hours for...
