    TRS drive steering bolt

Yeah I’m guessing it’ll fall into the bilge in about 6 months. While I was searching for it, my magnet found the castle nut that goes with it deep in the transom assembly.

    TRS drive steering bolt

Awesome, thanks for the part #. I fished around with a magnet on a stick today for about an hour. I’ve borescope’d the entire area. I’m convinced that aliens teleported the bolt into outer space shortly after I dropped it. I found a replacement bolt for $12.

    TRS drive steering bolt

HELP!! I’m working on an old TRS drive. While hanging upside down In the bilge, I dropped the bolt that connects the steering Ram to the tiller arm. (See pic below) It fell into the transom assembly, below the driveshaft. I borescope’d the entire area, and it doesn’t appear to be near any...

    TRS sterndrive maintenance

Current owner told me the transom and stringers were redone about 6 years ago. Since then, it’s lived on a trailer, and never really been in the water more that 6 hours at a time. I can vouch this is correct. Owner is my neighbor and good friend, so I saw the boat every day. I’ve summarized &...

    Re-wire kit

Huge thanks to everyone for providing info. The boat runs & drives right now, but the lights and gauges don’t work. I’ve also found some good videos on YouTube about re-wiring

    TRS sterndrive maintenance

Huge thanks to everyone. Great info. I think I’m gonna pull the trigger. If I scag a drive on a sandbar, it looks like there are 1 or two places that offer re-man’s or used drives. They seem to pop up on eBay every couple weeks.

    TRS sterndrive maintenance

Oh yeah I’ve definitely been stalking google searches. Seems as though there are very few options. I suppose I could call the listed vendors & see if they still service TRS drives…..

    Re-wire kit

I’ve been offered a decent deal on a 1980s vintage scarab II. It’s safe and it runs, but could use a little work. I’m all about tackling a project, but don’t wanna get in over my head. The wiring in the boat is mess. There are stray un-used wires. The bare essentials function; trim, k-planes...

    TRS sterndrive maintenance

I have been offered a decent deal on a 1980s vintage scarab II. It’s safe and it runs, but it could use some work. It has 2 TRS Sterndrives on it. Owner says they were rebuilt around 20 hours ago. Where do you find parts and manuals for these? All the threads I find on various forums are 20+...

    Sad Day Yesterday

84 hours so far this year. I’ve probably got another month until I need to winterize. It’s been a very mild fall in NC.

    Corpus Christi TX

Small potential that my job might move me to Corpus Christi TX. How’s the boating scene there? I’m currently on the NC coast, and I really like taking my boat to the outer banks and enjoying empty, rural beaches. I also like waterfront bars and restaurants I can dock at for cocktails after a...

    383 cheap fun build ideas

Scott, good gouge. Thanks. Do you really think iron vortec cylinder heads are good enough? I was thinking some super cool Edelbrock performer aluminum heads or something like that.

    383 cheap fun build ideas

I’m in salt water. I’d upgrade to closed cooling for sure. Can I run aluminum cyl heads with closed cooling? I fried the piston rings in my original motor. I ran a poker run last year at 5000rpm for about 5 hours straight. It burned my piston rings and the motor had a ton of smoke and blow by...

    383 cheap fun build ideas

I recently dropped a 383 in place of my tired 6.2L merc MPI motor. It’s running great, but I have an entire 6.2L short block in my garage. I’d like to rebuild it for fun. I’d like it to have 400-450hp, spin at 4500 RPM all day long, and be on a budget. can you guys recommend some good reading...

Replace timing cover without dropping pan?

Engine: ATK 383 crate motor with merc MAG MPI 6.2L top end. I’m 80% sure my oil leak is coming from the front main seal or the timing cover. Is it possible to replace the plastic MPI timing cover without dropping the oil pan? (And removing the engine in the process...). I have enough room to...

Install freshwater cooling old older engine?

My new 6.2L mercruiser engine has run a great season. I’ve logged 70 hours on it. About half of them have been In salt water. I’d like to install a freshwater cooling system on the boat so I can run in salt water worry free. I’ve heard rumors though, that if I install a freshwater kit on a...

    Bravo III testing results

I recently replaced my tired 320HP merc 6.2L MPI with an ATK 383 small block. It's rated at 345HP and 445TQ. My boat weighs about 4500ish lbs. With the OEM 24P merc props, I was reaching 5200RPM rev limiter at about 80% throttle. That would net me 47mph, regardless of how many people or fuel...

Suzuki DF90 runs for 2 seconds then stalls

I'm posting for a neighbor. I'm a merc I/O guy, and my outboard knowledge is limited. My Neighbors fuel injected Suzuki DF90 4 stroke 4 cylinder outboard stalled last week on the river and hasn't run since. Every time we try to start it, it will start, run for 1-2 seconds, then quit. If we open...
