Just wondering if a faulty VRO could cause stalling when coming off full throttle or throttling up too slowly. Seems to crap out around 2500-3000 rpm. Hates to run at mid throttle and always stalls if left too long. Other than carbs and timing "could" the VRO be the culprit?

I've got a 86 ER 120 looper. Should the plugs be changed yearly? I also fogged the motor and the cyl's before putting to bed. I have her running, seems ok. Will the plugs dry themselves off eventually?

Hi all, I'm looking to replace the plugs on my 1986 evinrude 120 v4 looper. I see some sites recommending champion QL77JC4 while others recommend champion QL78YC. I'd really like to put the proper plugs in it. Can anyone shed some light on the actual plugs I should use.

Hey guys, just wondering if 5000 rpm is ok at wot for 86 120 Evinrude looper. I hit about 40-42 mph but keep hearing that this motor should be running at least 5500. I don't know what prop is on this thing "yet" new to me. Any thoughts.

Trying to find a service (repair) for my 86 evinrude 120 looper. I've been told to avoid seloc manuals and find the omc ones. No matter where I look I can't find a supplier that even lists one.
Can someone direct me on where to find one please.

I had to be towed back after I stopped to fish but a minute later decided to move. She cranked but would not fire with or without choking. My question is should I have been able to pump the primer bulb to get it hard? I tried for a minute and it was still soft. I cranked her for about 5 minutes...
I know there are different service manual publishers out there. Any thoughts on which one is the best for my 1986 Evinrude 120 looper. I want to be more hands on and not be afraid of tearing down. But want a comprehensive manual.

Ok, just wondering if the VRO warning system system utilizes the boats horn or is there a oil tank/engine alarm somewhere. Sorry, I have no manual with my new to me 87 larson 120 evinrude. The existing boat horn does not work.

Ok guys heres the problem. 86 120 looper starts fine. Seems to idle ok, runs at low throttle good, runs wot good, but try to run a 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and she will start to sputter and die. I then have to choke (prime) to get her going again and make sure I go to wot to keep her going.

Assuming not water logged ect. 16.5 ft open bow larson with a 1986 120 evinrude with 127 comp on all cyl's. If the right prop has been installed.

Top 2 cylinders have a larger wash pattern than bottom 2 cyl. Not a concern right now. Compression is #1-125 #2-130 #3-125 #4-130.
I know the compression is good, just not sure what wash pattern means.

Just wondering how expensive this repair could be.The finish is peeling on the shaft which is what likely caused oil leaking. I'm guessing its not a cheap repair :mad:

Is there a product that can be applied to the hull before your boat hits the water? I have to leave mine in a slip for a couple months and I've been told to expect a scum covered hull that is a real Bi*ch to get off.
