    83 40hp lower unit trouble

    I have a mariner 40 hp motor trying to get the lower unit off and I am getting hung up by this piece of allthread that runs all the way up the motor from the lower unit up to the motor. I can't see either end all I can see is an adjustment nut about halfway up from the lower unit please help...
