I have struggled with this and have taken them apart and cleaned both carbs and rebuilt. New needle and seat and my bottom carb will have the needle get stuck and motor runs like junk on top one. I found out which was not working by spraying fuel mix in carb adn seeing which one would kill...
My motor recently started acting up. Wouldnt turn over or electric choke wouldnt work at controls. But if I used rope I could pull start it adn then shut off then it would turn over with key and choke worked. Is this a sign of the neutral safety switch going bad? I did hear a click and hum...

My dad went to the lake with his boat today that he just bought. We had it running on muffs with no problems, and this afternoon he went to the lake to try it out. Put it in the water and it fired right up pured great he said. Then still in neutral it just quit as if you turned the key off...
Can these motors be run out of the water on muffs??? I only see a narrow strip on the bottom where I normally hook my muffs up to that is only like 1/4 in high by 3 inchs long. Is this enough to suck water from garden hose??
I have a 1972 50 hp Johnson dual carbs. Motor ran fine but had electric choke issue. Fixed that issue and put boat in the water and fired but was sounding real sick. Replaced plugs and ran fuel treatment in the tank and sprayed carb cleaner in carbs while running. Not a whole lot of carb...
