    88 75hp won't stay running

So my 88 75hp mariner 3 cyl has decided to be stubborn. The motor will turn over and fire but will die quickly unless the choke is held in. Even then it won't stay running for long. I have spark and opened the carbs and nothing obvious was present. I've pumped the bulb while it was running and...

1988 mariner 75 one cylinder not working

Appears to have been a bad coil pack. Replaced all 3 just to be safe. Water trial coming soon. Thanks for the input and patience.

1988 mariner 75 one cylinder not working

I'm going to do the spray carb cleaner or starting fluid in the suspect carb first. Hoping I don't have to dig too deep to figure it out

1988 mariner 75 one cylinder not working

I'll have to consult the manual about the main cylinder. I'm going to do some more tests on the coil today to make sure it's good.

1988 mariner 75 one cylinder not working

Hello folks I come with a where to start question. 1988 mariner 75hp 3cyl with power trim. Noticed my motor was shaking a little more than normal at low speed (2000-2500 rpm). After a bunch of diagnostics in having issues with the top cylinder. I ran a spark tester and had spark, but when I...

1983 Johnson 60 dies when throttling up

So it appears that the fuel pump may have been hooked up backwards. It's running great on the muffs. Water trial tomorrow

1983 Johnson 60 dies when throttling up

Not at all. I understand that the compression is low. If your thinking that the motor isn't cranking hard/fast enough that would make sense. Just didn't come across as obvious. No need to get upset just because I asked what you meant.

1983 Johnson 60 dies when throttling up

1983 Johnson 60 dies when throttling up

Well the venting wasn't the issue. I checked the lines coming to the carbs and there was a little dripping so I re connected them. Still doing the same thing. Starts good idles rough lol. When I go to give it gas it will either stall or run good for a sec then stall. I'll try to attach a pic of...

1983 Johnson 60 dies when throttling up

Hey guys, got rid of the deck boat and switched to a older crest with a Johnson 60 (j60elctb). Motor starts ok and shifts fine. When opening the throttle it goes just past idle but won't open up. Thankfully I've been able to recreate the same issue I had in the water on land. So far I've checked...

    Mercruiser 5.0 shifting issue

So when adjusting the reverse, what position do I need to have the shifter? I read somewhere that it needed to be at 2 o'clock?

    Mercruiser 5.0 shifting issue

Sorry about that ..1994 alpha 1 gen 2. It's on a hurricane deck boat. The shifter is a quicksilver

    Mercruiser 5.0 shifting issue

Ok heres the situation: have issue with the boat stalling when going into reverse. I have done the alignment per the manual. Temp fix has been to bump up the idle and that helps a little. When in the water when the boat is in reverse and I shift to the neutral position it still stays in...

94 5.0 clicks but wont turn over

Sorry for the late update. Got the starter off. It took a few grunts but wasn't too bad, getting down there was the tough part. Did the jumper cable trick and no luck. Ordered a new one and put it on yesterday. Fired right up. The old one was really nasty on the inside, lots of corrosion. Thanks...

94 5.0 clicks but wont turn over

The exhaust manifolds are a whole other topic/issue. I'll try to get to this tomorrow. Thanks for all the good advice. I plan on testing the starter on the bench before I go further. I'll keep you guys posted.

94 5.0 clicks but wont turn over

This should get me in the right direction. Now when the time comes to remove the starter there are 2 bolts on the bottom that hold it in (besides the wires). What other things need to be removed to get it off?
