    Bought a used Mercury 5hp 4 stroke Took it to the shop for a tune up and was told it "is one of the original Mercury 4-strokes"... (I now nothing about these...). Got it tuned up and was told it's ready to go (that was about 2 months ago - just didn't get a chance to fire it up before now !)...

    Thanks for the information. Yes, that looks like my motor (see pictures). And yes, there are 8 holes on the back of the leg that were certainly spitting out water and smoke, so I imagine that is where the water from the cooling system is spewed out ?? Also, might start another thread, but...

    Thank you very much for that help. Very useful ! Only "serious" issue I can find is there is no water flow whatsoever, but then again, I have no idea where the water flow would be ?? Can't take the top cover off (gasoline tank) and looked around underneath and can't see any "hose" or otherwise...
