Silliest Question on Fuel Mix - Thank you for your patience

24:1 with 2-stroke outboard oil will be fine. You will get many opinions. I personally run those outboards at 32:1 which is 4 ounces per gallon and have never had an issue. 24:1 to be on the safe side. Some folks say 50:1 is fine, I believe that’s a bit light on oil..

Yet, another Gale sovereign 40 question.

I would check seal integrity first.. squirt s bit of soapy water on top of sealing surface and pull it over (spark plugs out to make it easier to pull - won’t affect test). Upper crankcase under seal will have positive/negative alternating pressure trying to push/pull past sealing surface...

1977 Johnson 35 HP 35EL77H-Rectifier and starting battery recommendation?

If your outboard is electric start from the factory, it should have charge coil and rectifier built-in. Should be a wiring block on the side of powerhead. If so, check charging function. Hook up to battery and start it, then connect a voltmeter to your battery. Voltage should increase as RPMs...

    How to test VRO system

I had a 90hp VRO and tested as follows. Use a portable fuel tank mixed at 100/1, mark the current oil level in the VRO bottle and use it for a day. Avoid long wide open throttle runs for your test. If you used 3 gallons of fuel, oil level should have dropped by at least 4 oz. (Calculated at...

    1985 9.9 evinrude misfire

Did you pull intake manifold to check reeds? One leaf broken/blocked open will cause your issue and still start easily. Powerhead removal required, unless you can get to that bottom intake mounting bolt.. Leaky upper or lower crank seals could also cause issue, but rare on those motors.
