    Merc 9.9

The guys came by and picked up the motor. Put it on the boat and took it to the river and backed it down the ramp. Fired right up, pumped water and idled down and purred like a kitten. Two cases of the king of adult beverages and everyone is happy.

    Merc 9.9

I put a chalk mark about 8" above the pump so the owner could run it in a barrel. Supposed to pick it up today.

    Merc 9.9

Never worked on Mercs, only Johnson/Evinrudes. Not seeing any screens on either side, only one just above the prop. Probably put it in a barrel.

    Merc 9.9

All the videos I've seen are using a hose screwed into the lower unit. Can't see where muffs would work. Thanks.

    Merc 9.9

Working on a friends 9.9 (1994) I think. Cleaned the carb and replaced the fuel lines. I want to run it out of the river so I need to know what kind of fitting screws into the lower unit to hook up to a garden hose.

    20 to 25 hp

So there is a guy advertising a 20 hp Johnson saying it is now a 25 hp just by changing the high speed jet from an .068 to a .072. Is that all it takes? I know the CI is the same.

    Transom savers

Must have been a hell of a man to "toss" a 9.9 in the back of a boat.

1958 Evinrude 18hp piston part number cross reference

Did it run good before you pulled the head? If so, replace the gasket and enjoy.

    Lower unit filled with grease

Apparently, grease was used years ago in lower units. My 1953 Evinrude Fleetwin operators manual states that the "new" design uses hypoid oil instead of grease.

    1955 Johnson RD-17

Looks like the head might have been replaced?

    1955 Johnson RD-17

I redid an RD-17E a few years back. Good running motor, but heavy. Would make my 14' Richline scoot right along!

    1958 or 1966 18hp thermostat

No air filter. Basically just a sound deadening air chamber.

    1977 Mark Twain Worth It?

Likely the cutout was for an inboard.

    1958 or 1966 18hp thermostat

Someone added a fuel pump also. 58s had dual line pressure tanks.
