I have a 470 that is pushing the coolant into the over flow tank with out running hot. I have done a compression check and all cylinders are right at 140. I think I am going to try a new radiator cap and any other suggestions you may have.
I have a 1988 sting ray that I think is over heating 200deg. Here are the things I have done.
1. changed sea water pump
2. cleaned the 4" heat exchanger
3. new hose from the transome to the heat exchanger
4. check the timing

What is the normal operating temperature for a 1988 165 hp 470? It runs around 190 on a 96deg day and the lake water is like a bathtub. I am about to do the raw water impeller but I would like to know where it is suppose to be.
I hate for my first post to be a question but here it goes. I have a 1988 3.7 that has a small water leak from the front of the engine. It appears to be coming from the timing chain cover to is this possible? Looking at the front of the engine it's the third bolt hole up on the left side does...
