In a discussion with a friend he said:
"I was told that a winch rating is what it will pull up a 30 deg Horizontal slope, not what it will lift vertically (The weight is on rollers to minimize friction).
If my math is correct that means a 2000 lb winch will only lift (maybe) 1000 lbs vertically"...
