Need Recommendation for Alpha Outdrive Reseal

Bumping this thread... Still hoping there's someone in North GA or Eastern SC with a Mercruiser mechanic recommendation...

Need Recommendation for Alpha Outdrive Reseal

The unit is an Alpha Gen 2. I agree I have the capabilities to do it, but I'm currently buried with projects, and now with the setback to my hand, was just hoping to farm out the task. The drive is removed and easy to take somewhere. I was planning to do gimbal bearing and bellows, just to...

Need Recommendation for Alpha Outdrive Reseal

We have a little 175 SeaRay with a Mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen+. The Alpha outdrive is off and I was planning to rebuild it, but an unfortunate recent hand injury currently has me one handed. So I'm looking to drop it off with someone and pay to have that done. The lower section does pass vacuum &...

    4.3 LX Gen+ Alpha leaking water/oil mixture

Update: I drained out all the gear lube. It was clean and fresh (dark blue/green color) with no sign of water until the very end. So I think there was a small amount of water in the upper section. The outdrive does not hold pressure or vacuum, but the lower section, when tested by itself, does...

    Seriously stuck gimbal bearing

I'm following this thread with significant interest, since I may be in for this same challenge on a neglected boat I'm working on... RE: the Pulling the Engine Alternative: Wouldn't it be simpler/easier to just remove the entire transom bracket from the rear of the boat? That way you could then...

    4.3 LX Gen+ Alpha leaking water/oil mixture

I will definitely pressure test it as soon as I can (hopefully this weekend).

    4.3 LX Gen+ Alpha leaking water/oil mixture

OK. Thanks for that. I do have a Gen-II and I recognize that shaft seal. And I know it's located directly under the water impeller housing. So I can see how that particular oil seal could leak into the water intake. I will report back after I remove the drive this weekend.

    4.3 LX Gen+ Alpha leaking water/oil mixture

Yeah. I plan to pull the drive off this weekend and I'll pressure test it to try to locate the seal leak. But I'm still somewhat confused: How would the leaking oil get into the water passage..?

    4.3 LX Gen+ Alpha leaking water/oil mixture

Any ideas about what might cause it to all of a sudden start leaking after sitting there undisturbed for so long..?

    4.3 LX Gen+ Alpha leaking water/oil mixture

1996 Sea Ray 175 with 4.3 Liter V6 Mercruiser (owned by a relative). The labels on the outdrive say 4.3 LX Gen+ and the serial number is 0F679962. Unfortunately, boat was stored for past two years with drive in trailer position. Boat reportedly ran well during last lake outing, then got...

    Question about 2012 Yamaha F90TLR...

I went ahead and tried the long 3/8" bolt with flat washers and nylock nut. We store the pontoon boat on an air lift, and I was able to crawl onto the lift (under the boat), lay on my back, and push the outboard out with my legs, while my wife inserted the bolt. We placed it into the third hole...

    Question about 2012 Yamaha F90TLR...

Yeah. I was already a bit concerned about that. I have a 3/8" x 10" long bolt, with washers, and a nylock nut. It's the largest diameter (standard) bolt I can fit into the holes. Do you know where I could locate a P/N for the factory pin? I've checked the parts diagrams but can't seem to find it...

    Question about 2012 Yamaha F90TLR...

OK. Thanks! That is exactly the purpose I would like to use them for.

    Question about 2012 Yamaha F90TLR...

Can someone tell me what these five holes are intended for (see picture)? 2012 Yamaha F90TLR w/failed trim pump, on a 20' Premier pontoon boat. I won't be able to pull it and do the needed repair until next winter. So meanwhile, I'd like to get it locked in a little more trimmed out position...

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

Yes. There are only two leads coming from the motor. So am I correct in my assumption that the relay switches the +/- polarity to make the trim motor spin in either direction?

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

I do plan to play around with it on the bench once I get it removed. Honestly, though, it looks like the motors are not killer expensive. The boat is up on a lift at my dock, but I can't quite reach the motor. So I'm gonna need to pull it from the water in order to get it removed. I'm not sure...

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

I used two heavy leads, straight from the two battery terminals. I connected those two leads to the two wires coming off the motor. And I tried it with both polarity combinations (switching the + and -). I assumed that should make the motor spin in different directions. But the motor didn't move...

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

Warranty? Wow, I hadn't even thought of that. It's right at ten years old. We're the second owners. Could it possibly still be covered..?!?

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

Yes. That is how I did it, and that was my conclusion as well. I will remove and replace the motor this winter. Thanks!

Trim Function for Yamaha 90 Four Stroke

Yes. I used two leads straight from the battery. And I remember trying the polarity both ways as well. No motor movement with either orientation...
