Steering assist servo pump fluid - 91 VP 570

I did a re-power last year. I have the VP service manual, but it doesn't mention the servo pump fluid. My steering doesn't perform as well as it did prior to the re-power. I don't remember and didn't pay attention to what was in it before. I took the oil cooler off and pressure tested it and...

    De-Lam

Re: De-Lam I got geared up with epoxy and cloth and really started looking and researching. When I was out this last season, I could see and hear the cabinet rubbing the side of the cap (see picture). It only moves about a 1/8" when anchored and in current and 3' waves but it does move. After...

    De-Lam

Re: De-Lam The fresh resin is where the PO glassed and tabbed the deck above where the cuddy is. The fiberglass is where the bulkhead that the main deck terminates at. The delam is the tabbing from the bulkhead to the hull. I'll do a drawing. Thanks!!

    De-Lam

Hey Ya'll, Above the deck all around the boat, I have delamination of the white finish, the bulk head and bracing tabbing, and the top to hull tabbing that is over the rivets. When I was getting the mechanics right, I had the gas tank hatch off and the stringers and transom are good fiberglass...

The clunk on I think a 280C from play in the reverse lock pawls

The clunk is in the water only, sounds pretty tight on muffs. So my question is how much play is normal? I get a good clunk, but I fish salt in strong current. I think I have about 1/2" back and forth or forward and reverse to the pawls catching. My drive has hydraulic trim. I've looked at the...

Patina in fresh water heat exchanger?

I suspect this is normal, but wanted to check with the salts on here. Got a VP 5.7 280C with a stock heat exchanger. I flush in a horse trough and flush again before I go out...on my own well. I notice after a week or so the water turns green, is this usual? Wouldn't know it if I didn't run the...

A couple pin hole leaks at gasket between manifold and riser - attention now or ?....

I just recently re-did my set up. AQ570A When all was apart I cleaned up the surfaces between the manifolds and gaskets with 3m medium discs. After about 30 or so mile runs out to hali fish, I've notices pins hole size leaks (salt water) and rusty line at the same locations. I'm super careful...

    Wiring electric pump VP570

I posted a couple weeks ago re-my fuel system and was advised to re do it due to an unsafe and non marine set up. I installed a marine pump with built in regulator for my carb. Here is the wiring I'm doing. This is a little different because I'm not starting the switch from the starter switch...

Base to TA power curve for 91 AQ570A

With lots of time and money invested, I don't want to assume anything. Although the boat is running good, I want to check that the stock distributor is doing right. Does anyone have a link to the curve specs for my engine (Volvo Penta 570a)? Also, a quick rundown for the procedure. Under load...

    breaking in new motor VP570

Hi All - The boat (22' heavy glass hard top) was set up with a vortec block and non vortec heads and intake when I got it. Found out it had a cracked block and no compression in a few and little in a couple more. So, for the cost I was better off getting a re-manned long block and it's running...

    Proping new motor

I've been breaking in a new long block in my 22' GlasPly Hardtop this week. I've never known the boat to run right, until this last week. Book (VP Service Manual) has my VP570A at 4200-4400 WOT. With the VP15x19 aluminum on my 280 I'm getting right at 4200....of course I've only brought it to...

New set up timing - vp 570 (2 bolt main 5.7 rollers and hydraulic lifters)

Fixing to time my new set up. My plan is to put in at dock and deep enough to start the motor with outdrive down. Adjust idle to around 700rpm after in warms up. The book says basic at 6btdc and 23btdc (stroboscope) 3.000r/min. I assume from the book (VP workshop manual that includes the 570)...

VP 280 outdrive...both solenoids good click but pump has failed. Can they be rebuilt?

Just finishing a fantastic learning experience replacing a bad motor. Went to time it under load at the dock and the outdrive trim and tilt pump failed. Can those be rebuilt or where do I find a replacement? Thanks!! The mechanic that has been advising and supervising my work is out of town...

    I need specs for 91 VP 570

After about a year of knowing that my boat didn't run to it's potential, and doing rule outs myself. I finally took it to a marine mechanic and did a leak down. Apparently the PO rebuilt with a short block and didn't do something right. I had 95% loss in #7 and 80% in the next one back. I am...

square drive manifold drain plug seized on

This is probably stupid, but...winterizing and can't get back drain plug off on one side, so I did the front of the stuck manifold instead (take hose loose and point fitting down). Am I good to go for that side. The other side was piece of cake...different fitting too. Weird because both...

91 570 intake sea water hose--late type or early type

I'm ordering a couple things I need at the VP store and the hose gives the choice between early type or late type. How can I tell which one I need. http://www.volvopentastore.com/Cooling-System/dm/*******.564355273--session_id.917550122--store_id.366--view_id.767318

    3/8 pulley instead of 1/2 stock--1991 570VP

I had a very wobbly raw water pump. Took it all apart and determined it was a slightly bent pulley. Ordered one (6.5" from michiganmotorz) that looked to be an exact fit. Installed everything yesterday and it lined up perfect...right holes, raised holes for the pump to seat on, center-line and...

serious wobble at crank pulley rebuilt 91 570 (aq271)??

I asked about this before and Don S advised to pull it apart and check. Did that, and I think the pulley is out of whack. The damper appears to be true. The problem is that the bolts or/and the holes on the damper are stripped (apparently the PO tried to fix this also). So I need to pull it...

Crank shaft pulley wobbles. 91 VP 570. Normal or Not?

I bought my boat with a newly installed motor, and it has very low hours. So, I'm working out the bugs...thanks to folks on here!! The pulley wobbles slightly, but enough to notice and feel at low idle. The circulation pump really shows the movement and the hose is wearing where it crosses over...

New motor with previous set up bolted on. Wondering about compatibility between carb

Thanks to Maclin and others, I have corrected fuel delivery potential causes and ruled out being over propped. I'm having a hard time getting up on plane, then it maxes at 3500wot. The motor is a new re-manufactured, with cast number 10054727 (HP 155-205 car & truck 2 bolt passenger stick 1...
