    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Well chatting with some family, it seems we have both sides making plans for the new boat. It was a nice day yesterday, so i jumped in the boat to pull the block casting number. For the sake of saving time vs going with the easy jb weld solution. It seems safer for the family's kids and us if...

    1982 starcraft v220 mariner v5 potential rebuild

The better hull! More reinforcements, tale tale is the long rib on the outside. I think those earlier ones also had the lattice structure inside of the hull. My islander is an example of the much later version of the hull design where it became the "V" Example 221V would be the reinforced hull...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

yeah, we finally got a little break here. It has been a little too cold for my tastes, and windy! today it's supposed to be in the mid 60's and nearly 70 tomorrow. Then the wind will wipe that out and bring it back into the 40's and more rain. Oh well, more work on the garage is needed...

Also, I found this interesting. The support struts for the swim platform that screw into the lower part of the transom. If you notice on one of the pictures above, the struts are still on there, one of them is upside down due to being loose. I was expecting the worst, like water intrusion. I...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

And one more thing, The boat came with two of those hi-five props. The one installed, the seller said it's for general use, and the second prop in the bin was for high altitude use. I removed the prop to inspect seals and to see what pitch it has. I found it's a surprisingly low pitch at 17...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Also lowering the front of the trailer down to as low as the jack allows, I can pretty much get the out drive to sit level now. but the skeg is pretty much on the ground. I need to go pick up some lumber to make a temporary stand and lifting adapter for my motorcycle jack. Supposed to rain...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

The other day I started looking at trailer brakes. It looks like the surge brake controller I have us a UFP A70 (or something like that). I think my brakes might be sticking, it's very hard to even budge the trailer w/o a vehicle. When I moved the boat to the other side of the driveway, I also...

What is the Starcraft Islander Freeboard height??

It might be a few weeks before I can look at my tank. I have a 22ft islander. There is a difference though, if yours is a later V like mine, or an earlier V5, you might have a complex lattice structure under that deck.

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Stole this from another thread since it has the plans for the handy outdrive stand/hoist plans and I don't want to search too hard for it. Just lightly messing around with my islander, I found I can't get the outdrive to sit level when on the trailer. As it is, the trailer has the boat...

    1984 starcraft islander

Well if all else fails, it's an outboard. Easy to pop one off and slap another one in there. I have an I/O for my new to me islander, first time with one. so far; In some ways its much cheaper to deal with if I do my own work, it would be even cheaper/easier to deal with if it was a 350 chev...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

doing some more work on the wood, it looks like a thick coating of a wax like substance especially thick on the rear most plank (left side on the image). I'm wondering if the teak oil helped loosen it up a little or something. I see some teak wood stripper that I might try before I reinstall.

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Kind of what I'm thinking. Only odd part is that it is sucking in lots of oil, but drilling holes through the wood for the new swim ladder showed some extreme dryness of the wood. Some chipping and re-oiling brought back the plastic like consistency of the wood. When I first got this thing...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

And today I spent a little time working on my swim platform. If i knew someone with a plainer, I would probably talk to them about running the planks through it. Last night I loosened every single screw and soaked the bottom side with teak oil and let it sit over night, it took a few coats...

And here is a picture of the hoist setup with the extra support. It's on a slider that can be tightened down, that way I can move it where I want. It also has a nice wide foot that's also adjustable.

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

Well it looks like the good old airplane paint stripper was killed by the epa in 2019 or 2020. That stuff was awesome. I had some issues with it melting plastics, and even melting those black rubber/latex gloves. Reading up they reccomended plastic sheeting, and I'm to expect a short life...

    1984 starcraft islander

For an outboard, my father-in-law made one using two ladders. He was able to remove and reinstall one of those v4 evinrude from his boat. It was super sketchy, i didn't want to be anywhere near it... lol I'll also warn you, his evenrude was challenging to change the water pump impeller. His...

    I'm back with a 1994 Islander 221V!

all righty, The hoist looks good and I have a support coming down to the ground on one of the sides. I'm feeling pretty good about it. And I now have the boat on the other side of the driveway, ready to start backing it in here soon. Supposed to rain this weekend, so yard work I had planned...

    1984 starcraft islander

yes sir! Lucky you have them too. Many outboards require an adapter for the flywheel (Merc for instance).
