    1976 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB - restomod

The patch looks great! I think a lot of knee braces are broken like that, it seems like most people just use a piece of 1/4" x 2x2 angle and bolt it to the knee brace as a replacement.

I just use Paint for resizing, I think the size limit is 1024x768.

Do you mean the metal at the top of the gunnel that goes back over the area where the transom slides in? If so, you can bend that up out of the way to get the transom in, then bend it down, it will be hidden by the end caps.

    1983 starcraft rebuild

I know this topic is old, but I wanted to comment here in case someone else searches and finds this thread. I think that's a SS-150, you can tell by the small splash well with the storage on the sides and the rounded edge on the gunnel with no trim strip on the inside edge

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Not too late as I haven't finished yet, but the new stripper is working incredibly well and I am now over half done the other side, very little hard scraping now! I received my 3/16 rivet set and rivets today, so I'm ready to start plugging those screw holes as soon as the paint is off...

Nice and clean under those ribs now!

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Unfortunately Citristrip doesn't seem to be available in Ontario :( I was using the Solvable Resolve HD stripper, but I just tried this Dumond SmartStrip that my friend lent me and the paint came off like nothing with just a little scraping after only a 45min sit time, so I'm taking the new...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

I'm hoping to avoid this due to the price of sheet aluminum here in Canada, not to mention the amount of riveting! Once I dig into the pits I'll have a better idea of how bad it is, but I think I can get away with plugging/skinning it. I've been slowly plugging away stripping paint as Mother...

Post a pic of your starcraft!

I think that's an SS-150, yours is only the 5th one I've seen in all my searches over the last year.

That they do, although the more I dig into this boat the more I appreciate that the PO at least had some idea. I have found quite a few reasonably well filled pits and scratches throughout the boat, and he took the time to make a fairly good floor and transom, attempt a transom brace, and use SS...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Thanks, but I don't think that is available anywhere in Canada, I couldn't find a good source. It looks like the red smeg is blocking the bow-most limber hole in the rib. I did grind down a small patch directly in front of the rib to clear it, but the red stuff is inside the rib as well, any...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Thanks, I picked up a litre of the heavy duty Resolve to try out before I commit to a gallon for $76  I did manage to put in a few hours with the wire wheel this weekend, the bottom is now quite clean and the carpet backing is ground off the sides. I also picked up some Goof Off adhesive...

Where did you pick up the Resolve stripper?

    198x SS-150 rebuild

So I didn't even come close to completing my intended task list above by end of April, but I am slowly plugging away still while I wait for it to finally warm up enough for paint stripping. I got the consoles out as recommended, removed the bow cap, rub rails, and bow deck, and have been slowly...

    Starcraft Rub Rail

Someone else found a replacement at Wefco, might be the right one for you too? https://forums.iboats.com/threads/rub-rail-replacement.742125/post-5639085

    198x SS-150 rebuild

The weather is nice and the project is back underway! Back before the sub-zero temperatures hit last November I winterized the motor by running fuel with Sta-bil through and fogging the carbs and spark plugs, then pulled the motor and put it on a stand I built. Motor was stored in our unheated...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

I will change my plan for the bilge, everyone is offering the same advice so I know it was a bad idea :) I don't have a lot of accessories that will take much power, and tons of boats only have one battery, so I wasn't too worried about having everything but the trolling motor hooked to the...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

I guess the consensus is hard wire the bilge, so I will modify the plan to have the float direct from the start battery and a manual switch in the console. I thought it was pretty unique with the rounded sides too, but there are a few unique issues with this version. I have to fabricate bow...

    198x SS-150 rebuild

Hey all, Due to winter there hasn't been a lot of movement of this project. I did get the motor fogged and on a stand in the garage (unheated, but it rarely goes below 0C), and I have been spending some time planning the electrical. My thoughts on my electrical plan (pdf attached. Diagram...
