Outhouse Mistake

This summer, my sister-in-law came to the local lake to fish with her sons. All the local relative were out of town for they day, so she had to use 80 year old, stone outhouse. She somehow managed to drop her car keys down the hole. With no way to get them out, she asked a local to help...

    Re-attach Rub Rail

I have a 1987 Mastercraft. The rub rail is loose on the port side and lets large quantities of water in when turning or in heavy chop. Can this be re-attached or will I need to replace with new? Either way, what is the cheapest / easiest / best way to accomplish this? I don't want to tear it...

    Mastercraft Questions

I recently purchased a 1987 Mastercraft 190. I have looked through the owners manual, but it is mute. The horn does not work. I have tried to reset switch and tried bypassing the horn switch. Where is the horn at so I can check it? The blower does not work. Any suggestions on where to...

    Replace Guts

Sad news to report. The guy who winterized my boat did not check the outdrive. It has a nice crack in it. I have purchased a replacement outdrive (top and bottom). The replacement came off a 6 cyl. boat, but mine is a 305, so we plan to pull the guts out of mine to go in the shell of the...

    Take the dock with you

Not exactly a SHT, but funny. My father purchased a dock on the opposite side of a small lake in Kansas. We spent 30 minute removing the cables and putting 55 gallon drums under the steel arms and the gangway. After securing to the boat, he sat down on the dock and I slowly pulled it free...

    Backing Oops

I was going to get the boat ready for a 4th of July good time. The kids and better half were in the house preping there. I backed into the driveway. Stopped to make sure I was not close to the garage door. 6 feet away at least. The nose of the truck was in the street, so I back up a little...

    Speedometer Issue

Over the weekend, my speedometer and fuel guage worked off and on. Either both on or both off. Can anybody direct me on where to begin a wiring search? It is on a '79 Cobalt, 18 ft., Chevy 305, Mercruiser. Thanks.

    WOT Hesitation

Have a '02 Johnson, 2 cycle, 90 HP. At WOT it sputters. It seems to at lower RPM, but not as noticably. We have added heat to clear any moisture. The tank is venting. The manual says to have it serviced. We guess either carb. adjustment or choke problems. Does anyone have a suggestion...

    '02 Johnson has a studder

My father just bought a 20' toon with a '02 Johnson 2 cycle. At WOT, it sputters. We have tried Heat and checked to make sure the gas tank is venting. It seems to sputter at lower RPM's, but it is not as noticable. The manual says see a dealer. We suspect a carb adjustment or choke is...

    Testing the Waters

Early this spring, I took the family out to cruise around the area lake. My folks have a small dock we used. My 10 year old daughter watched and learned from us old farts. When we pulled up to the dock, grab a rail and pull the boat up. I came in at a bad angle and the wind was pushing us...

    John Boat

My father is going to sell an aluminum 10' or 12' (I can't remember which) John Boat. It is in good shape, no oars, but does have a trolling motor. Any guess on value? We live in the middle of Kansas.

    Fueling Problem

I bought a '79 Cobalt. The first time I filled it up this spring (yikes!!!!), everything was fine. The last three times, I have had to fill it at a trickle. If I latch the handle to the first stop, it "boils" out and shuts off. It also comes out the burp line. I have tried putting the...

    It Lives!!!!

Bought my first boat over the winter without a test drive or even hearing it run. Took it to the mechanic yesterday and for a quick test run - it was perfect! A '79 Cobalt can really cut through white caps on a lake. I guess my marriage is safe until I do the next risky thing :D

    Launch Procedures

I am new to boating this year. I have looked on this site, a boaters safety site, and listened to experienced boaters. I put together a list of things for me to do once I am at the lake. I have 4 kids and a wife, so I know I will be distracted. :D What am I missing?

<br...

    Seat Rebuild

I am replacing the plywood under the bow seats on my '79 Cobalt. Does anyone have recommendations for staples to used on the bottom? I am using treated 1 X 6 wood instead of plywood, so it should last longer.

    Cover Stains

Does anyone know how to get mold stains out of a cover? I don't want to use a bleach/detergent in a washing machine for fear of fading it.

    Upgrade to Fuel Injection

I recently purchased a '79 Cobalt w/ a 350 Mercruiser. Does anyone have a very rough idea what the cost would be to convert to fuel injection for reliability and dependability?
