Shifting Forward, RPMs rise before engaging

Same issue - 72 Merc 888 with a pre-alpha. I followed the manual as well for my year and am running into the same issue in forwards. Have not yet tried reverse. Boat shifts perfectly fine without power if I cycle through the gears. Have you tried doing the shift cable adjustment with the...

    1972 Mercruiser 888 Fueling Questions

When i reset them they were at 3/4 turn outwards. It does seem happiest (loose term) at 3/4-1 turns currently. The old line was just rubber tubing so it's not surprising that's hardened. I did pull the distributor cap wondering if I had weak spark from there - did not check the point gap but it...

    1972 Mercruiser 888 Fueling Questions

Just updating there isn’t a check valve at the tank in these eras, or someone took it out but the line was very crusty. Replaced line up to where there seems to be pliable line and it’ll pull fuel and sorta run. Runs like ****. Electric choke got hot like immediately and opened way up and after...

    1972 Mercruiser 888 Fueling Questions

    1972 Mercruiser 888 Fueling Questions

1972 Sea ray with a ford 302/holley 2bbl carb. I recently had a tsp of gas in the sight glass of the fuel pump so I replaced the pump. After that it refused to start until I disconnected the boat tank and plumbed a line direct into a gas can. Started fairly easily from there and idled for 5min+...

    Questions regarding tow vehicle

Hi Scott, I wanted to check on some of your advice. I did try to rock my boat back and forth on the trailer from back to front with not much happening. But with me being able to lift I’m wondering if I have to little tongue weight as you mentioned and I might be feeling reverse bucking? My tires...

    Questions regarding tow vehicle

40gal I believe. I was wrong I used 8-10lbs per gallon. (So actually only 240lbs in fuel) I’m not going to try to tag everyone but WD hitches have crossed my mind but haven’t delved into that much. Figured air bags would be better for all around use.

    Questions regarding tow vehicle

Currently about none. Which I know will a full tank will add 3-400lbs overall but my tongue weight isn’t overloaded just by adding that.

    Questions regarding tow vehicle

I was thinking that too so with the multiple suggestions to look at tongue weight I did a young and dumb thing yesterday and instead of the bathroom scale method I figured I know what I can deadlift and what weight feels like. TL:DR I can pick up the tongue of my trailer so it is less than <400...

    Questions regarding tow vehicle

Shocks aren’t quite 5 years old on my ‘17 1500 but the factory ones have seen some work and I have been in debates of throwing bilsteins back on like I had on an 04 burb. Also have an appointment at the local tire place here this weekend to get trailer tires balanced and probably replaced as...

    Questions regarding tow vehicle

If I jump on my hitch I can get a lottttt of bounce from my rear. Sorta same “boat” if I assume load up 4 adults and coolers in then that available gvwr drops sorta fast. Understandable no bags can increase that number. you know honestly decent. I have upgrade the brakes anyway.

    Questions regarding tow vehicle

I agree I’m going to agree on the fact I need to visit scales for an exact number on combined pulled weight and tongue weight. (As the poster above also mentioned) My estimate comes from the brochure saying a 165hp version dry is 2700lbs and I have a slightly bigger engine than that currently...

    Questions regarding tow vehicle

Hi all, I have a 1974 sea ray srv200 runabout, gas tank in the nose. I haven’t driven on scales but with my big steel roller trailer I estimate I’m at about 5k-6k depending on how much gas I have and other gear. My tow vehicle is a ‘17 Silverado 1500, 5.3L and my rear end dips, sinks, and bobs...

No reverse on alpha 1 after reinstall of lower unit

1974 SeaRay 200 - assumed alpha 1 outdrive (I think the MC-1 is setup the same?) I took off the lower unit to replaced the impeller on the water pump on the new to me out-drive. No problems there and I had taken it off with the shifter next to the driver seat in the forward pos. Once off...
