    1974 Starcraft SS16 Restortation

Paint looks great! Don't you hate how fast our weather turns here, it's snowing again in Calgary today ugh. It cracks me up to see the southerners unhappy with their 100 degree Temps this time of year. I'll take that any day over this crap.

This is my bilge drain from the outside. From the state of the ss when I bought it this is original. Maybe it's different for different models.

1981 Starcraft Super Sport 180 - Gonna try a Restore

Thought I would try out this clipboard thing to post pics. From the phone this works great. This was yesterday, nice and quiet on the lake. That's the admiral in the background having a float. I love summer vacation.

OK, I managed to replace some of the broken pic links. I'm still working on all the rebuild pics but have replaced the pics of the original state of the boat and all the before and after pics around page 37.

Here ya go Irv, I hope this works. On the inside of the transom I used 5200 to mount a 3/16" thick backer of checker plate for the bolts to go through. Unfortunately, I never took a picture of that. I did the same for the boarding ladder.

That sounds like a plan Rob. Did some backyard diagnostics today and found that the thermostats weren't opening. I tried them in hot water and then ran the engine without them installed and it never got hot. The tell tale was terribly weak as well. So I ordered a new water pump kit and...

1981 Starcraft Super Sport 180 - Gonna try a Restore

So today I got the top installed. I had to hack up the frame a bit to get it to fit but I'm happy with the result. The window doesn't line up at the sides but for 50 bucks I ain't complaining. Next year I'll find someone that can cut and sew that and my side curtains to fit. I also changed the...

Got the boat out of the hangar today and started on the engine. Since it's been sitting for three years I wanted to make sure it ran before I started putting money into it. I sprayed down the carbs with a healthy dose of seafoam and let it sit for a few hours, fogged the cylinders and cleaned...

1981 Starcraft Super Sport 180 - Gonna try a Restore

Motor is finally mounted and all of the important wiring is done, just have to tidy up some of the hanging wires. Only wiring still to do is the led lights and tie in the GPS to the vhf radio. I was really hoping to start the motor today but wiring in the Gauges took much longer than I...

1981 Starcraft Super Sport 180 - Gonna try a Restore

Installed a led spotlight today. I wanted it to be removable so I only needed to put it on if I was going to be out after dark. To do this I installed a 12v deck outlet and attached a plug to the spotlight. Then I cut the heads off of some 1/4 inch stainless bolts and put a locking nut on the...

Time again for the weekly update. I didn't get much time to work on the boat over the weekend, I had to knock off some chores to keep the admiral happy. I did manage to make a cover for my fuel fill line this afternoon and I started polishing the aluminum on the sides but quickly stopped when I...

1981 Starcraft Super Sport 180 - Gonna try a Restore

Yesterday I figured out how I was going to close up the back of the bow deck where it was open to the fuel tank. I figured with all my practice with aluminum framing I would build a box to give some more storage. It's all aluminum except for the top which was a piece of leftover ply from the...

That's a good idea actually but maybe once I've splashed I'll look at doing something like that. I do have some scrap decal laying around that I should try to see how it works. It may work, here is a close up of the texture, it's not too bad.
