    What Bearing Puller?

This is what I use. Need to clamp the top cap in a vise with rags as not to damage the finish Get a slide hammer with multiple jaws, need to be smaller/modified to fit under the race securely. Shims can be damaged on removal so be prepared to replace one or more

    spring vapor lock?

At this point you've got nothing to lose by removing and disassembling the carb. If it's clean/operational inside parts are readily available for rebuild/updating Mikes carburetors has a full selection of marine carb kits, parts and new electric choke assemblies

    Thunderbolt V doesn’t advance timing

That used to be the rule but I've seen the ignition sensor be faulty while still giving a signal for the module to fire. Engine runs but rough, starts and dies almost immediately, cuts out at rpm under load, etc.....most issues I've had with them pertain to aftermarket sensors that have been...

    Thunderbolt V doesn’t advance timing

    1. By checking the advance with a light you've basically tested it. Sbc ought to be and can handle 32-34 degrees of total advance all day. Only thing you didn't mention replacing is the ignition sensor in the distributor. It's possible that could be the culprit for such little advance but no way...

    Outdrive Oil Leak

Along with the shifter assembly there is an oil vent/level plug that may be leaking due to a faulty o ring/seal Remove the cover, it's three 3/8" hex head bolts. Inspect the shifter assy and plug areas for gear oil

Throttle lever issues. Replace or repair

Not sure there's too much available aftermarket anyways You may find a used mercury control on ebay or online somewhere. They're fairly decent controls even used. Just avoid the commander 3000 or older, no parts available, had issues, etc... Of you go new mercruiser control you'll need new...

1989 Mercruiser 350 alpha one stalls when shifting

Issue is more likely caused by a worn/faulty lower shift cable than the v spring assy in the shift interrupt. Expect to get 5-10 seasons of use from the lower shift cable under normal conditions

Ignition switch does not shut engine off.

I read this as two station (cockpit/bridge) with full controls at each with a main 12 volt breaker panel in the cabin that has ignition breakers for each engine The only way to shut the port engine down is by turning off the breaker at the main 12 volt panel, correct? If so, the issue lies...

3.0l Alpha 1 Gen 2 low speed overheat

Your boat has a 3.0 L and you have it craned into the water? I'm guessing it's a fairly small runabout that would fit easily on most trailers. Talk to a friend with a boat trailer you can borrow to load the boat out, maybe? Agree with Bondo, your boat, your pleasure but the issue is there...

    Testing transom assembly for leaks

That completely negates the purpose of the test I will add that I don't belive OP's test is necessary however it's their boat and if they want to check their work for leaks their method is sound. Your suggestion/method goes against more than one principal of operation and can possibly cause...

Need help with Rotary Steering Cable!

You might be able to push the drive in one direction with difficulty with the actuator/tiller arm pin in place. Often times you will not be able to move either direction. Remove the pin and test. It's the only way to know for sure. Otherwise it's speculation and that gets expensive quickly...

    Starter wont engage flywheel.

Pretty normal patina pictured there, guessing this is a fresh water boat? I'm more curious as to what the contacts in the cap look like. The Delco est system is pretty simple and bullet proof, only other components aside from routine tune up parts that commonly fail are the ignition modle and...

    Starter wont engage flywheel.

OP says engine is LH rotation and the flywheel is rotating counter clockwise as looking forward. Based on the posted pic the package appears to be a straight inboard so it is correct Only caveat I have is a lot of twin inboard boats have the starboard engine be RH rotation. OP claims it is LH...

2000 5.7 gsi fuel pump relay problem

Looks to be quite a bit of corrosion on all the female connectors in the posted pic Make sure everything is clean, no corrosion and the relay is making good, solid contact on all the connections

Volvo Penta DP-SM Steering actuator leak. 21910902

I've never rebuilt any power steering actuator, always replace with oem. Other manufacturers actuators are non servicable and I feel there's too much at stake to risk a failure. There's a lot of pressure on the high side of the system Plus, the new oem one comes with a warranty

    Starter wont engage flywheel.

That would be LH (standard rotation). Is the engine a LH or RH (counter rotation) engine? Info should be located top of motor, sticker on the plastic cover

    Testing transom assembly for leaks

This is a terrible suggestion The idea is to keep water out of the boat, sure a lot of the components in the bilge can handle water for a bit but why subject anything to that? In order to fill the bilge/boat to be at the water line would take a bit more than you may realize. The load on the...

    Lookin' for documentation,.....

You got me thinking this a.m., Bondo. I've thought about it a little more and I can say with almost 100% certainty the quoted text in post #1 is BS. All alpha style drives from MC-1 to Gen 2 must have LH rotation engine input because of the cut of the gears. Every gear in an alpha style drive...
