Mercruiser 3.0 diagnosis / serial number decode

Can’t tell what RPM it’s at because tach is broken… that’s another thing I gotta fix. I just got the idle to where it was smooth but not too rich/lean. That’s correct. Interrupt switch is completely disconnected as well as the drive cable so it’s literally just the engine spinning with zero...

I also feel like something may be wrong with my electric choke. When the engine is cold I’m getting the spring-loaded action of the choke plate. After it warms up, the plate bounces around freely like the choke spring isn’t grabbing it anymore. Unless that’s normal operation of it.

I completely disconnected the drive shift cable, and it still stalls putting it into gear. Probably still a carb issue since the drive is completely out of the question now…

I can get it to shift without stalling but have to move the shift lever extremely fast.

Engine idles great now, but it’s instantly stalling when I shift in to gear. I completely disconnected the shift cutout cable. Not sure what’s going on now

well guys, I was so far in to this project that I absolutely refused to give up. I took the carb apart and found that the needle was stuck in the seat. Brand new parts. As everyone told me, ONLY buy OEM kits. I ordered a cheap one off Amazon because it would get here to meet the timing I...

Mercruiser 3.0 diagnosis / serial number decode

I’ve done some thinking after wanting to throw the carb across my yard, and the only thing I forgot to verify was float drop. It’s possible my needle is shut because of this. Literally everything else in that carb is spotless and flows freely.

I was incorrect. I am getting flow through the main inlet and through the needle/seat, but the bowl is not filling. At this point I’m fed up with it… tried my best to rebuild the carb but somethings still off. I’m getting solid pulses of fuel out the supply line while the engine is cranking so...

Mercruiser 3.0 diagnosis / serial number decode

Air should be able to be blown freely through the supply inlet and through the seat. Is that correct? I’m not getting any airflow through this pathway if that’s how it should work

I just tried blowing air into the carb fuel supply inlet and it’s completely stopped up. What should I verify when I take it apart again? The seat and needle?

I’m getting like no fuel pressure while engine is idling. Starting to think something is up with the pump. Does this look like the correct orientation?

I got a rebuild kit in today and it appears I successfully rebuilt the car. However still having issues. I can get the engine to run by pouring gas down the carb. The accelerator pump also works now, but I have to dump gas manually into the float bowl. I’m getting fuel pressure, but something...

Thanks again Chris. Got the carb pulled and fully disassembled following Mike’s video. Most of the parts are soaking in carb cleaner. Everything looked pretty good with little carbon residue. However there’s two things I noticed that are concerning: Needle that goes in the seat (?) was very...

I owe all of you a beer if I ever meet you, you guys are so helpful. So here's where I'm at now. I clarified things this morning. 1. Removed fuel line at carb and put in plastic bottle. Fuel squirts in bottle in pulses while engine cranks. Hose is currently attached to boat gas tank, so at...

And here’s a quick clip of what I’m seeing inside the carb while throttle is actuated- nothing. Accelerator pump seems to be non-functional. There’s definitely gas getting to the carb… when I remove the supply line coming from the fuel pump, it’s wet.

Thanks Chris, excellent explanation and cleared everything up for me. With that said, I’ve confirmed that there is not a drop of gas being squirted into either of my two barrels by the accelerator pump. I had a helper pump the throttle forward dozens of times. Nothing. So… looks like I’m...
