Waaaay Behind

Let's see, where to start - patriot act, NSA/Bush, NY TW strike, plane crash in Miami, federal judge's ruling on intelligent design. There's a lot of fussin', cussin', and discussin' that's waaaaay behind here.

    1956 30hp kill circuit

I've got the flywheel off this engine and I've traced the wire from the vacuum switch to one set of points. I assume in the case of a 2-stroke runaway, this would ground one set of points, thereby killing the runaway condition.

It seems like I remember that to create a "kill"...

    The Letter-maybe posted before

A father passing by his son’s bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope propped up prominently on the center of the bed. It was addressed, “Dad”, with the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter with...

    Drivers License (Rant)

This was inspired by another thread. What is the deal with driving w/o license. It seems that a high percentage of the news stories that somehow involve a vehicle, also involve an unlicensed/suspended-licensed driver. Why are there so many, and why are the penalties not stiff enough to...

    Xtreme Golf

Three men were playing golf. The course was a wicked
dogleg with a large water hazard.

The first man stepped up to the tee and hit a sharp
slice into the water hazard. He walked up to the
water; it parted and he lofted his ball within one
foot of the hole.
<br...

    Most outrageous part price yet

I need the little rubber boot which goes over the end of the choke solenoid. Part # is 303792. It's for a '56 30hp, but it's the same part # as my '77 35hp. Been using that same part forever. It's price - $22.95. That's about what I paid for the carb kit and impeller combined.

    JB's mentor

I finally realized tonight where JB got his cussin' knack. While surfing for something to watch, I paused on A Christmas Story (TNT). The furnace in Ralphie Parker's house had developed a clinker so Mr. Parker (Darren McGavin)went off with words like I've only seen JB use. Mr. Parker was a...

    First zap

I just experienced my first zap!! Devastating, just devastating. It was the worlds worst hunting dog thread. At this rate, I'll have strike three by January of 2009. I'd better sit down and shut up.

    Yea, I'm a klutz, 1956 Johnson 30hp gearcase head

As you can see, I don't feed my family with my mechanical prowess. I demolished the gearcase head trying to get the seal out. I would appreciate any ideas on how to repair or where replacement might be found?

    '56 30hp shift rod o-ring

I am resealing the lower unit of my '56 30 hp and I'd like some guidance on removal of the o-ring on the shift rod. When looking down on the lower unit with water pump removed, the location seems to be waaaayyyy down in there with limited access. Anybody have any tricks in getting the old one...

    Shopping strategy?

A few short years back, our local sales tax went up. The Christmas after that happened, I did near 100% of my shopping via the internet, the sales tax being offset by freight rates.

With the increase in freight rates due to oil costs, I'm expecting to do most, if not all, my...

    DELL Support

    Compression hot? cold? 30hp Johnson

I'm working on a 1956 30hp that I acquired recently. It's not quite ready to run yet though. I wet the cylinders good w/TCW3 about a week before checking compression.

It has 140 lb on each cylinder, cold, and somewhat oily.

What might I expect to see for compression...

    Aging Gracefully

A 70 yr. old nurse walks into a bank and prepares to endorse a check. She reaches in her pocket and pulls out a rectal thermometer and tries to write with it. She looks up at the teller, pauses for a moment, then realizing her mistake, she says, "Well that's great......just great.....Some...

Working on '56 30 hp gearcase

And I need a suitable sealer for re-assembly. BRP specifies Type M or equivalent. I asked the local BRP dealer and was told they only have large "shop size" tubes that are not for resale. Searches here reveal that Marprox Sealer 1000, OMC Adhesive, Boat Armor Sealer 1000 or maybe 3M #847...
