Had to send a FAX or "Back in the 20th Century."

I remember when faxes first came out and how we could send sketches back and forth and save days and weeks waiting for the mail. I haven’t sent one in years although I think my hp printer can do it. Thermal paper 🙂 I bet no one has hacked a fax machine.

    I've done stupider

Stopped to eat lunch and fish for a bit today. After a while I started the engine up, gunned it and took off. I had it planed off and was cruising when I heard a noise and then something caught my eye. It was my anchor, a little dansforth, flipping up and landing in the splashwell not more than...

    Deck flooring

I need to replace the worn out splintery pressure treated deck boards at my house.
The composite decking material like Trex looks interesting.
Does anyboby have any experience with it. What do you think of the way it looks, how it holds up & feels on your feet.
I know it's a bit...

    New deck

I need to replace the rotted floor on my 16' alum boat.
The original plywood floor had the carpet glued on it & wrapped around the edges, then the whole thing was screwed to the alum. stringers.
Would it be better to do it like it was originally done or put the floor down first then...

    Only runs when choked

    4 1/2 hp evinrude, 1980, intergral tank.
I had the carb off to clean out 2 years of gummed up fuel in July & it ran fine. It hasn't been run since, so I started it up just to run it again.
It will only run- idle or throttle open with the choke closed.
Fuel filter looks ok & I...

efficiency of electric furnaces.... new vrs old

If you are talking about a new heat pump, it would most likely be a lot more efficient.
If you have an electric resistance heat type of furnace only, I don't think much can be gained.
I don't care much for heat pumps, but they are used a lot & are a lot cheaper to run than resistance...

Timing w/out test wheel - Update

I have a 40 hp '89 Johnson that I want to check the timing on. The manual say to do it with a test wheel only.
Given the obvious safety issue of speeding along w/ the engine going 5000 rpm & pointing a timing light at the flywheel, will timing it this way be accurate.
Or should I just...

    Decarb

This weekend I decarbed my '89 Johnson 40 for the first time. I've had it a year.
I used the J/E Bombardier engine tune.
The smoke wasn't that bad. A lot less than I expected. I saved a little & filled up the cylinders & replaced the plugs.
It started right up later & didn't run...

    Removing Paint

All on sound(no rot)plywood.
Many coats of hard enamal.
Any suggestions for removing so I can repaint.
So far not very impressed w/ paint remover.
Maybe a heat gun. Will...

    Babysitting

My 14 year old is interested in making some extra money. It's been so long since I used a baby sitter that I don't remember what they get.
My wife used to get 75 cents an hour, so that obviously isn't relevant.
What do you pay?

Only runs on the first half tank of gas

I have a 1989 40hp tiller Johnson. The other day when the gas tank got down about half way the engine started surging & stalling like it was running out of gas. I finally poured more gas in the OMC 6 gal metal tank & it ran fine. I changed the bulb & will change the end fittings. The gas filter...
