Proper Way to Use Spark Tester

I purchased a spark tester from Autozone, to test my motors. I have yet to see a spark jump the gap? I hook the one end in the plug wire boot and ground the other end to the frame. Then I pull start the motor. I have tried this on my 15hp (which does run) and I still don't get a spark? Am...

I have heard that these starter brackets cost a bit of money and are hard to find. I am going to look at an electric start '56 Johnson and just want to know how much this piece might add to it's value. I don't see where any have sold on ebay or http://www.aomci.org/. Just curious if any one...

Is it worth fixing up or should I abandon?

Just got a '56 Evinrude Big-Twin. I didn't pay a lot for it and have done some looking over and cleaning while going through "Awakening a sleeping outboard; by BoatBuoy". After inspection I have found some issues with the motor and I need to know if it is worth continuing with repairs or if I...

    My Evinrudes

Just thought I would share with the community. I just love looking at pics of old motors. I picked up a 30hp 1956 Big Twin (pictured to the right) today ("Ran last time it was started") for $50 it came with gas tank and controls (good and working). Not sure if it was a good purchase. The...

    Late 50's early 60's Evinrude/Johnson HP's?

Does anyone know if these motors come in HP values above 35-40? I don't seem to see any that are in the 50hp to 60hp range for sale ever. I have seen the '56 Evinrude catalog which only has the Big Twin and Lark as it's largest HP motor (i believe 35hp).

    1956 Evinrude Fastwin Gas/Oil Ratio

Please help, I have scoured over posts, but can't find my gas to oil mix. The motor serial number is 15016-14092. I see gas to oil mix ratios for 18 hp fastwins, but not sure if it is the same for my 15hp Evinrude.
