    98 Johnson leaking hydraulic fluid.

The little tool you hit with a hammer...well sometimes you really have to hit it hard to work. My issue with it is that the crud that blocked it is now forced into the thing your trying to lubricate :( I personally when possible replace zircs and such vs the little tool... But I have to be...

    Starter or solenoid ?

Does the starter bendix actually push the starter gear UP to and fully engage the flywheel yet not turn the engine and still make a spinning sound after engaging? That is how I understand the original post. If so Bendix probably toast. If not then I misunderstood. Sean

Should I buy this 1973 Evinrude 65 triumph?

Wish my 15 yr old would have the motor bug... instead he like programming computers... guess I can't complain as he is pretty good with C++ now. Ok back on topic...I totally agree with racerone. It's a good opportunity, you will learn a bunch. At $150 if the power head is trashed you can sell...

    Stuck water pump impeller

This is the picture they provided as part of sales pitch on ebay...it looks way better in person. I'll be swapping out the anode for the prop shaft...as the new used ones is pretty well used up. It turns well...the paint is rough but in person it is only the paint... corrosion is minimal. I...

    Mercury outboard fuel problems

Lift pumps are often like carburetor pressure levels...4-7... maybe 10psi or 15psi.... they move volume of fuel and make sure it is available for the high pressure pump. Sometimes they fail and the high pressure one starves and you just get symptoms... Sometimes they take out the high pressure...

    Mercury outboard fuel problems

I'm not familiar with that particular engine... but does that engine have a low pressure (lift) pump to get fuel to a high pressure injector feed pump? Sometimes the low pressure (lift) pump failing will burn out a high pressure one due to starvation. Did you check filters? Water separators? Sean

    Stuck water pump impeller

Well I softened up me wife real good as to me spending more money on me boat.... Seems until a few days ago I had no idea I wanted to sell my 1962 all original international scout. But I did want to my wife strongly suggested I might wanna downsize me toy collection. Sigh. On the bright side I...

    Low Ignition Voltage

If nothing else is discovered and after following everyone else's advice... cause mine isn't as well thought out sometimes and definitely not as experienced as many here. I would suggest wacky Voltage readings that do phantom things can be a scuffed or cracked wire leaking or partially...

Broken head bolt. Evinrude 150 E150EXERV.

50 bucks...is awesome. For cast iron engine blocks a Mag Drill will often work for drilling via drill press without removing engine. For aluminum outboards I have always used good and sharp left handed cobalt drill bits and patience....lots of patience...and a bit more patience. Often as you...

Thoughts on Sierra carb rebuild kits

I find sierra to be acceptable and functional and almost like OEM. Then there are the amazon...ebay... no name trash....don't walk away from those RUN. OEM is 1st choice....sierra a close 2nd. Sean

    Blown head gasket / overheat

It looks like your chasing the problem down sometimes it is a long road. 2 stroke definitely eliminates the low oil level alarm....but is it oil injected, VRO, or premix. If oil injected or VRO it may be not getting right flow or that signal failing which may trip a limp mode.....just a guess I...

    Blown head gasket / overheat

Usually Spark plug wire induction issues are from wires that are linear/parallel...if the line crossed/perpendicular much less chance. However keep in mind there's a few thousand volts in spark system hi tension side. Could easily jump a 12v switch. That said....i dont think this is your issue...

Partially damaged spark plug hole on 115 optimax

Helicoil...had to do it to 1st outboard I ever owned....line 35 yrs ago.... some one that looked an awful lot like me may have been ham fisted as a teen and might have overtightened a sparkplug on a 1957 johny and completely stripped the threads....then started it and was surprised when i heard...

    Blown head gasket / overheat

I have had small leaks that caused a grounded condition due to a cracked wire and drove me nuts. The worst shut me down offshore and I got to self rescue via kicker motor from 20 miles offshore...was slow and unfun. Found the issue finely by adding salt to my test barrel....and pouring this in...

    Blown head gasket / overheat

I like the defective temp switch. If that not it. Maybe partially plugged intake screen? Block water passages filled with corrosion or sand...? Thermostat failure...? How is pee stream even with "new raw water pump" at idle and at speed. Do you have a water pressure gauge? I Usually check...

    Stuck water pump impeller

Oh I did...$800 to $1700 on ebay. I'm softening up me wife for the upcoming purchase.... I seriously considering some options there... but $800ish plus additional $650 potential with the full bearing and gear set suggested earlier is $1400....and that means the $1600 to $1700 starts making...

    Stuck water pump impeller

Absolutely on the blown up powered parts motor hunt. I been doing that from LA to San Diego to Phoenix AZ. I suppose I should look to lake Havasu...Tucson...and probably the lake mead area....as they have less water than before....a lot less. Thank you all for your help and kind thoughts...

    Stuck water pump impeller

Thank you! I think that would about cover it... I'm debating tossing the case or selling it off and spending an additional bit on one in better shape from the get go. You folks clearly have a better finger on the marine engine parts pulse than I do. I'm wishing I could afford the emp one at...
