    Alternator issues

    I have a Mercruiser 4.3 L. I have just replaced the alternator. Startling the boat I still have low voltage(12v). Unplugged the purple red and purple wire from the back of the alternator and the voltage jumps up to 13+. So it looks like something must be drawing power where do I start looking?

    Setting the timing on a 4.3 262 Mercury

    Here's my problem. on the vibration dampener there is a line cut across. on the timing cover there's just a notch. there are no degrees on the timing cover do I just set the cut in notch? I tried to upload a picture but it doesn't seem to want to. Timing supposed to be 10 degrees BTDC
