    If they are old or have had to much time in the sun the rubber muff bits can harden up and wont deform to seal around the gearcase .....do you have a lot of water squirting out from under the muffs ?

    Been there , very possible especially if the fuel line is going uphill before strainer. Mine was in-line fuel filter disintegrating and particles of paper element being carried up to strainer by fuel flow ....engine stops .... blockage particles sink back down fuel line ....motor runs...

    I have found a few manuals for a 9.8hp 110 mercury but not for 1986 year . I dunno for sure about your motor but often the same model is made for years and/or a manual may also be for different sized motors ...ie the 7.5 is pretty much the same motor. It may have a smaller bore or a shorter...

    Yeah , you oughta see it now , 15 years ago the had an earthquake and they are still fighting over who gets what fixed ...shameful when you see how quickly the Japanese got their Fukushima earthquake sorted. But yes it is a nice place , Dunedin ,I think , is even better if your into old buildings .🙂

    Thank you metalchewy , I figured as much , different name for something I have ( 😁 bought off Temu ) that I use for trout and flounders. Its surprising what trout will go for , I have had success with Berkley gulp nuclear chicken paddle tails . Go figure 😁

    Piston rings in all probability 😁there are sierra rings there and others too . Nothing wrong with the Chinese stuff ....they are leading the world , and all the Chinese engine parts I have bought are working just fine 🙂🙂🙂
