Thanks for the help! Definetely will ask with all my questions here lol. I just checked compression. I hope you can see the pictures. For some reason I wasnt able to get a reading for cylinder 2 and 3... I refuse to believe this because the engine runs. Maybe it was because I used a cheap...

Thanks for getting back! Serial of engine is; 1A022456 I honestly just bought the boat a few days ago, so its completely new to me... I asked the previous owners about it, elderly couple, they told me it was used at a cottage all its life, but was maintained properly every year. When I was...

    Mercruiser Setting Timing on 3.0L

So Im trying to set my timing on my 2008 mercruiser 3.0L TKS, EST ignition system. My current idle is at 1000RPMS thats where it runs still shakey but it runs and keeps running. If I lower it down to under 1000RPMS like to 800 or 900 RPM it starts to shake and run inconsistantly. Im not sure...

    Battery Switch Confusion

That's what I want, just an ON/OFF switch. i;m assuming it won't matter what kind of On/Off switch I get their all the same. Horsepower of my engine? That would be 120HP inboard Mercruiser.

    Battery Switch Confusion

Hello everyone. So I'm looking to get and install an on/off battery switch for my boat, since everytime I go to use the boat I have to manually connect and disconnect the wiring so it wouldn't drain if something was to be left on. I've watched plenty of How To videos and im still confused. It's...

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

Got it appreciate the advice and help! Seems like draining the block is better than leaving it full with even antifreeze. What kind of -100 antifreeze do you use? Majority of what I'm finding online are all rated -50.

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

Fair enough, okay then I will probably consider doing it that way, with the plugs out. If i do do it that way Im assuming any antifreeze would work since Im still going to drain it out of the engine? If Im not wrong I only have 2 drain plugs(87 4 cylinder merc 120 inboard).

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

Yeah I always run my boat in fresh water. Do you do that procedure? Leaving the drain plugs out over winter? If I do drain the antifreeze out of the block wouldnt there be moisture buildup or would it just evaporate or escape through the opening of the drain holes? Just want to do it right...

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

Yeah temps here in Ontario get below 0 probably around -25 *C on a coldest winter day. Is this any better?

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

Got it so it doesnt really matter which antifreeze I use? I could just drain the block but I want to be extra sure that there wont be any water in there that could freeze. My boat is around 35 years old but the motor runs like its new. Don't want to risk ruining a good motor... So would it be...

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

I live in Ontario, Canada, where temperatures can drop as low as maybe -25°C on the coldest days. I've watched several videos where people winterize their engines by first warming them up and then draining all the water. To ensure no water is left behind, they use an air compressor to blow out...

Does the antifreeze you use really matter?

So bought antifreeze to winterize my boat this year. It's the winterproof all purpose -50 pink antifreeze. As I was reading in the side label of it it said that it's OK to use it for boats... a few lines away it stated "This product is not designed as a heat transfer fluid for closed loop...

    What oil should I use?

Okay ill go with the rotella, seems like a lot of people are using that oil without a problem.

    What oil should I use?

Rotella makes marine oils? Or are all of those brands for cars? Found Rotella 15w-40 T5 oil. Would that work for a 87 I/O 120hp merc motor? Found this...

    What oil should I use?

Sounds good Ill go with the 25W-40 that I found online. Rated for inboards and outboards. Would any harm be done if I run regular full synthetic car oil in my inboard? Or are they different oils?

    1987 2.5L Mercruiser inboard/outboard

Yeah I can tell quality wise there's a big difference with the OEM one. Mine is basically brand new it has less than 10 hours of use on it. I opened it up today and it looked clean inside. I tried installing the OEM carburator and it completely flooded my engine with gas. Had to take out the...

    1987 2.5L Mercruiser inboard/outboard

Yeah, it was around $200 don't know if that matters. It wasn't anything cheap. I know OEM is obviously better but what is the difference? The new carburator that I have installed right now works great and has consistent gas flow.
