85hp 3 cylinder Force carburetor throttle plates.

I fiddled with the tie bar again and i think i got them as close as they are gonna get at wot. Hey Jerry what do you mean they have to be flat (horizontal?) at idle? Are they really all the way open at that point? I never thought to look. Maybe Im missing something.

85hp 3 cylinder Force carburetor throttle plates.

Working on a '88 force 3 cylinder. I have synced up the shift cable and sits nicely in neutral when going through the gears. Both gears enage solid. Now working on the throttle linkage from the tower to the roller (to check throttle plates @ WOT) and when the helm is 90 degrees (WOT) the...

Black oil in pick up tube and water pump.

I pull the plugs after every outing and so far havent seen evidence of water on plugs. They are definitely oily though. But Ive checked them after 5 minutes of running full power and they do dry up. So yea maybe slightly rich setting on carbs and long wake zone. It definitely sputters after the...

Black oil in pick up tube and water pump.

First thing I checked was the lower crank seal. No evidence of oil leak there. Its a small amount of oil built up around the PU tube right where it sits into the water pump. Other than that the area was generally oil free. Like I said I pressure tested the LU before I removed the cover on the...

Black oil in pick up tube and water pump.

Hmm You mean the anti cavitation plate? I have 3 or 4 one inch long skinny holes for intake of water on both sides. Never seen any drains holes for exhaust. Now I will have to go lay on my back and inspect. Even so, there wasnt a massive amount of oil pooled on top of the lower unit when I...

Black oil in pick up tube and water pump.

Good morning folks. Yesterday I removed the lower unit to get ready for the summer, replacing impeller and noticed black oil on the inside of the water tube that goes up to the head. Upon inspecting the innards of the leg it appears the water tube can be exposed to exhuast fumes. I am going to...

88' Force 85hp lower unit oil viscosity

I have the one piece drive shaft. So I fill from top until it comes out vent.

88' Force 85hp lower unit oil viscosity

I also fill from the FILL hole. Not really sure how I would be able to fill from the bottom. That hex plug is tiny. That would make more sense though. I will be trying to top it off today without removing drain plug and just see if I can get anymore in there. At least to rule that out. I am...

88' Force 85hp lower unit oil viscosity

Well this is something that developed some time after rebuilding. It didnt happen right away. Almost seems like it started after I switched to sae90. But again could just be coincidence. What happened is I had a clutch dog tooth break off because I think I had slop in my linkage. Which I have...

88' Force 85hp lower unit oil viscosity

I bought some SAE 90 Quicksilver and have been running it in my lower unit this year. Only been out 3-4x so far. I dont know if it is coincidence or the oil is the cause but I have a high pitch whine when at cruising speed. Matches the frequency of my tinnitus lol. Anyways, it seems like its...

Prop makes "clank" sound when shifting gears.

Seems to be the case here as well. I dont remember how many turns out or in it was but I just went by feel and found center of the clutch dog and got the barrel nut as close to that position as i could and its shifting quiet now.

Prop makes "clank" sound when shifting gears.

This is when shifting in water with trim down. Ive adjusted the barrel nut on the shift cable at the engine and recentered the clutch dog best i could. I dont hear the dog catching the gear anymore. Motor is trimmed up on the trailer. I assume the clutch dog is supposed to sit dead center...

Prop makes "clank" sound when shifting gears.

88 bayliner Force 85hp with 17p prop. Runs fine and shift cables are in good working condition and "adjusted" as much as I know how to. Last trip out I was hearing some odd clanking sound when i shifted gears into forward. It sounds like if you tapped a big screwdriver onto a prop blade. Like...

Adding dash voltage gauge for trolling motor batteries.

I understand parallel and series in general when connecting batteries but adding a volt gauge to this setup somehow warped my brain. I think Im getting confused because the motor pulls 35 amps but somehow the small wires of the volt gauge do not - even though they are connected to the same...

Adding dash voltage gauge for trolling motor batteries.

So then Im good to go with this wiring schematic? I have a battery switch with 1-OFF-2 and also option for 1&2. I will only be using one battery at a time. And using the volt meter switch to monitor the battery i have selected. I understand parallel and series when connecting batteries in...
