1996 130HP Evinrude V4 looper water pressure gauge install question

well yes. if the spring isn't stiff enough, it will unseat the grommet as I had mentioned something must've been leaking! if they leak, you are screwed as the water pump can't get enough pressure to tip it up and over down into the heads. also these new t stats are horrible. the old ones with...

    1996 130HP Evinrude

you bet. but you'd see water right away in the filter (hopefully you have a water separating filter with this terrible corn gas?). other thing i've done very succesfully is get a $15 manual fluid extractor, stuff as long a hose in it that you need to reach the corner of the tank, and suck away...

    1996 130HP Evinrude

you will need to hook a dva meter up with a primary terminal extender to see what voltage is doing when the motor acts up. if it dumps then the motor skips, you have an issue with the pack or stator. I'd just cranking voltage test the pack, timer base and charge coil to make sure its all in...

1996 130HP Evinrude V4 looper water pressure gauge install question

well something MUST be leaking at idle in the t stat housing. The plastic t stat seat could be it, or the grommet got rolled, or the metal ring is missing which (i think) compresses the spring to the proper tension. other thing to do would be to remove t stat housing and make sure water is...

    Warning buzzer

pop off the t-stat housing and take a peak. as mentioned, if the poppet valve grommets are crusty and leak, it will overheat a low speeds. t stats should be replaced while your at it.

    Fuel pouring from hood?

if you can do one carb, you can easily do all 3. just take plenty of pictures and count low speed needle turns so you put them back correctly (usually require a little adjustment after removal). only a couple linkages, fuel line to each carb, and the choke link to undo!

Yamaha 2 stroke crank bearing, to grease or not to grease?

well the motor will not last if you don't mix oil and fuel... not sure what you mean by giving it a try? heavy grease might block the passages for fuel/oil mix to reach the bearing long enough that it overheats. a drop or 2 of tcw3 is all that I use on bearings just before the crank case gets...

    Suzuki DT100 -90 Gauge monitor

you mean the colored leads are missing , or just the connector? if its just the connector why cant you snip off the other ends and bullet-connect everything together? dont the lead colors match up?

    1996 130HP Evinrude

when you say "bogs down until i back off" does that mean it clears itself out and is fine at full throttle? or stays bogged? if it clears itself out id say its most certainly a carb issue.

"looking closer" at sealing rings requires a complete powerhead teardown. might as well send the block out and get it bored for a complete rebuild at that point.

    100+ outboards

MASSIVE difference between a 1986 (prop rated) OMC 2 cyl looper and the old 35 crossflows in my opinion, especially out of the hole. But I agree, balance matters for overally enjoyment on a small stern-heavy boat.

    1991 Evinrude 60hp VRO - Won't Idle

there is a reason the service manual (you do have a factory one right?) says in black and white "Always PUSH fuel lines off, never pull"

    1977 55 hp evinrude

it won't idle or it idles too high? very different issues. if it wont idle then yes carbs need cleaned (should do it anyway). a high idle can indicate an air leak or the cam roller is against the throttle cam causing the throttle plates to be open a hair.

#1 is to make darn sure its not overheating and your overheat alarm works.

'84 Johnson 90HP died in water, won't restart

i would start cleaning all ignition grounds starting with the coils. it would help to know if you have spark when its not starting. if it doesnt and you get stranded, disconnect the black/yellow kill switch. yours has 2 power packs racer would know if the kill wire is at the terminal strip.

    1992 Johnson 120

air leaks are sort of unusual as it would effect idle quality. I'd go through the carbs and throttle bodies while your at it for the idle circuit. carbs would be my first guess. most ignition components on these either work or they don't but hit the primer first to confirm its fuel related.

1996 130HP Evinrude V4 looper water pressure gauge install question

Indcator hose pressure location looks fine. On the overheat: Did you replace the rubber t stat grommets? they must be sealed. if they leak, it will overheat as it cannot create the pressure it needs to fill up to heads. verify both t stats are opening with some hot water gradually warmed up...

1980 115 johnson stumbles at 2500rpm low compression cyl 3

i've built a few .030'' over and never needed to re-jet. Cant hurt to go up a size but for an extra $250 in jets its not really an issue. I do take 2 degrees of timing out for break-in (just 2 hours).
