    how did you test oil pump? they are dirt cheap now brand new OEM thankfully. they had an upgraded/superceded pump might want to compare part #'s between yours and the newer one

    NEVER rely on the temp of the water coming out of the indicator! it means absolutely NOTHING other than pump works! each cylinder head has a flat spot on TOP. at idle, what is the temp at each one? 125-155f is what you are looking for. if thats in range, i suspect you simply have a clogged...

    no problemo. sorry i assumed you had the motor hanging! i would get a hoist and hang it. will be much faster in the long run. the tilt tube is the tube on top... the thing the steering cable goes through. has a 1 1/4'' nut on either side to hold it in. the whole swivel assembly hinges on it...

    you really need an air hammer if its that seized. loosen the tilt tube nuts and whack the transom clamps away from the bottom pin. hopefully they break free after a good soak. do not try to remove that pin it will be so seized. also each side of the pin has a wire retainer that needs removed.

    every little hole. look at the head. no holes. so any hole in the block not sealed will cause it to leak. You can use any RTV really. more important is acetone the head and block until a white rag comes up spotless. get a dremel pen wire wheel and clean out all the old stuff. id soak the pistons...

    as flyingscott said the tool is spring loaded so you can put the correct amount of pressure on the whole assembly for repeatable measurements. you cant use calipers that way here. you're only allowed like .002'' error or severely reduce pinion life.

    there is no adjustment of the timer base. if its popping/backfiring you've either got a couple primary terminal leads on the wrong cylinders, or it sheared the flywheel key. did you thoroughly degrease the flywheel and crank tapers and torque to 140-150 ft/lbs w. a new nut??

    you could also drill and tap the transfer for a 1/8npt fitting to 5/16'' as a pulse line and use a 3 line pump i'd think? some guy sells conversion kits on ebay as well

    ? your just putting a tiny bit on the outer metal (or newer type hard plastic) casing. the rubber lip just gets a smear of grease of your choice. heck i've used light oil in a pinch wont matter one bit. it sounds like your saying your mixing grease with permatex #3?

I see 2 cyl loopers (newer 1989-up w. trim/tilt) and 3 cyl 56ci OMC motors sell for $3500-$4800 if they are willing to ship! they all looked nice but werent even rebuilt. just supposedly "serviced" with the usual cam roller outer sleeves rotted away and no mention...

    the 2cyl and 3cyl loopers are my bread and butter, i suspect like many of us old 2 stroke rebuild shops. my limit for a clean re-builder (max .020'' over if its just minor scoring) is $250. i consider any motor not able to be demonstrated on stand a re-builder, or one flopped over on its side...
