Can water get into oil from failed exhaust parts?

Gotcha, just want to check to see if I have this correct, I was looking at this water flow diagram for a 7.4, can I just need to block off the big hose that feeds water into the water pump and the small hose at the top of the water pump right? Shouldn't that isolate the block and heads without...

Can water get into oil from failed exhaust parts?

ooo, I see what you're saying now, and then set the engine to TDC so all valves are closed?

Can water get into oil from failed exhaust parts?

I can block off most of those hoses but I'm not quite understanding how to block off the risers to the Y-pipe connection? Can I actually block it off at the exhaust exit on the transom assembly?

Can water get into oil from failed exhaust parts?

Also I ran the boat to operating temp on the hose and noticed quite a bit of steam and a few droplets of water coming from one of the hoses from the valve cover to the flame arrestor, is this normal just blowing out condensation or is something not right?

Can water get into oil from failed exhaust parts?

I wanted to do a pressure test of the cooling system but I couldn't figure out a good way to block off the risers?

Can water get into oil from failed exhaust parts?

So I finally got my Merc 7.4 up and running and unfortunately after running it for about 20 minutes at idle on the hose I noticed my oil level was rising. I just put new head gaskets and intake manifold gaskets on so I don't think either of those are leaking. I also inspected the heads and block...

Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V Trim Sender Wiring

I've almost got everything on my engine put back together but i'm having a hard time figuring out where the trim sender wires attach to, the only wires left that aren't hooked up to anything are the purple and blue coming from one harness and the black and black/white stripe coming from another...

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

My distributor and ignition coil wires all go into that module mounted on the exhaust elbow. So I don't need to worry about putting it in base timing mode, just run it at ~700rpm (in the water I'm assuming?) then set it to 8 BTDC?

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

Cool thanks! And is there a set idle rpm I need to be at when setting the timing?

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

How do I lock my distributor into base timing mode? I don't have the 2 white wires or the purp wire, all my wires go to some type of control module. @Bt Doctur said to just set the timing mark to 0 at TDC and the computer does the rest?

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

I installed the new water/fuel pump assembly and she started right up, I guess pouring gas down the carb didn't work too well. So I did the static timing at 0 and the computer should automatically adjust the base timing and timing advance? No need to time anything with a timing light?

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

Ok I just re-did the timing from scratch and now it seems to want to start and it'll puff puff a couple of times but won't fully run, but at least no backfire anymore. Just to confirm I did the procedure correctly, here's what I did: 1) Set Cylinder #1 to TDC Compression, I used a scope in the...

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

I'm pretty sure it should be TDC compression, I turned the engine over until I could feel air blowing out cyl #1 then turned it manually until the piston was at the top, if I was 180 out would the timing mark still line up on the crank pulley?

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

I'm waiting for my new water/fuel pump assembly since the pulley on the old one was really tight but I just tried pouring some gas straight down the carb and it's not starting, seems to actually be backfiring through the carb a bit, not sure if it's because the boat is parked facing uphill so...

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

Ok so just to confirm this is what I did, set #1 on TDC compression, the mark on the crank lines up with the 0 on the timing plate, I installed the distributor cover so that the rotor points to #1. Is that it and the computer takes care of the rest or do I run the motor at idle and then set it...

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/wiring-harnesselectricalmounted-on-exhaust-elbowtb-iv/assembly/1621/70?model=418 That's the diagram for my engine, the wires go to #9 which says it's an ignition module kit. What do you mean by flat cap? I have #1 set to TDC compression...

How to do new distributor timing on Mercruiser 7.4 Gen V?

I'm trying to reinstall a distributor and didn't mark the old one, what is the procedure for new distributor timing for a Merc 7.4 Gen V? I tried to look up some guides and they mention putting it in base timing mode either by shorting the purp wire or jumping the two white wires, but on my...

Can I use slightly longer push rods than stock on 454 Gen V?

Wait my motor is a Gen IV? I thought 93's were Gen V? and I have the flat torque rockers, no adjustment nut, I thought that was a Gen V feature?

Can I use slightly longer push rods than stock on 454 Gen V?

Are they not the same part #? https://www.perfprotech.com/mercury-marine-parts-catalog/cylinder-head-and-rocker-cover74l-bravo/assembly/1621/180?model=418 That's the parts diagram for my Gen V by serial # and it shows part #75589 and #75590...
