New to me 18 hp Evinrude.

Okay update time. Pulled the flywheel. Found one of the condenser wires rubbed through along with the wires going into the back of each coil. Replaced the condensers as I have some spares. Same results only really running on one. Tried to inspect the plug wires but I can't for the life of me...

18 or 25? Anyway to tell?

I'll get some good ones in the daylight tomorrow. It's likey not a 73 going off the ignition not having the coils on the block. It's 69-71 I'm thinking.

New to me 18 hp Evinrude.

So it seemed to clear up in the tank. So I ran it this evening out on the lake and it was doing well pushing my 14ft Crosby sled with 470lbs of people in it up to 19-20mph. Getting on plane easily. Then after a few runs it was dropping out that cylinder periodically then towards the end it...

New to me 18 hp Evinrude.

Started with cleaning the carburetor. Replace some crappy looking lines. And it'll start and run in a bucket fairly decent. You still occasionally here the 1 cylinder dropping out. I fired it up on each cylinder independently and it does run on both independently however the top cylinder...

18 or 25? Anyway to tell?

Yeah that's 100% my bad I expected it to be on the end of the jet. It was on the side I was covering it with my fingers the whole time. I'm fairly confident the heads never been changed. Just kind of going off context clues but paint matches perfectly there's no signs it's ever been off. I...

I'll end up pulling the flywheel. Someone changed both plug wires so connection to the coil is definitely suspect

New to me 18 hp Evinrude.

Recently picked up a 1969-1972 18-25hp engine (still nailing down the specifics). But for sake or discussion we'll assume 18hp. I got a bit to mess with it after work. Seller said good compression and spark. Compression is good and even. And it did indeed have spark on both cylinders. It did...

18 or 25? Anyway to tell?

There is the plug but it's all banged up? Like it was replaced and hammered in very poorly. Can't read anything on it. So what would I be looking for jet wise?

18 or 25? Anyway to tell?

I didn't think of that good idea. And I'll take some when Im home from work today. Photos of the power head? I know it's got the bigger carb that started in 68-69? (Going off parts diagrams) But still has the coils on the timing plate. So pre 73?

18 or 25? Anyway to tell?

So I recently acquired an old evirude. Supposedly a 25hp. The transom tag would indicate a 73 25hp. However the cowling is definitely the 60s-71 cowl. Not the square style of a 73. The welch plug is jacked up and illegible. So either it's a 73 with earlier cowling. Or an earlier motor with...

    Axle rating help.

So my Axle is done. it broke at the spindle hub once. i fixed it. Now its broke again and i dont think its worth the effort to try again. Now finding the axle is a pain. Its a 16ft Javelin Boat and matched trailer. 60" frame width. Looks to be 58.5 spring centers and 72.5" between hubfaces...

    12v Motorguide keeps frying switches.

Your exactly right it isn't the right bolt. I need to get that replaced. And I do hope it's fixed. Hoping that melted wire sitting on the ground was the issue and not just the result of the problem still un discovered.
