Bottom feeders: trailer spare tire mount for under $1

Parts available by the pound at Tractor Supply. I've done this with 8 & 12" wheels, but not sure I'd go much bigger with this method. I suppose you could go to 1/2" bolt. Drawback: you do need to carry a couple of wrenches.

    50hp 2003 Johnson - changing water pump

I'm changing the water pump on my 2003 50hp. The 5/8" head bolt near the trim tab is stuck pretty good, I don't know if it has ever been removed. I don't see any visible corrosion & I've sprayed it with PB Blaster. I'm afraid to put my persuader on my ratchet handle for fear of breaking it. Any...

    Every Day Carry (EDC) Knife

Re: Every Day Carry (EDC) Knife I vote for Swiss Army knife, but not one of the giant ones with a zillion tools. You can get just about any combination of tools you want, whip it out of your pocket and get to the task. I like: large & small blade, awl, regular & phillips screw driver, bottle...

Need advise for keeping boat independant from dock

Re: Need advise for keeping boat independant from dock I get it- I don't think he means the boat is out 240' from shore when it's at the dock. How about a used lift? Don't know how cheap you mean, but there are used ones around. I found one for $700.

What's this called and where can I get them? - picture

I'm looking for the pin that goes through the drive shaft & drives the gear, this is from a trailer jack. I thought it was called a drive pin, but where do you get them? Hardware store?

Looking for that magic all-around used car - sometimes for towing

The time has come to start looking for a used vehicle. Just so you know where I'm coming from, I highly prefer 4-door sedans and currently drive an 02 Impala, before that, a 96 Lumina. The Impala has 192,500 miles on it and is starting to get into problems I don't want to deal with. Decent gas...

Johnson 50 - Revs over spec - just want your thoughts

I had my Jet Star out for a test run last fall, 50hp motor & 12-1/4 x 15 prop. I figured the total weight including my son and myself, all gear etc. was about 905 lb. The motor topped out at about 6200 rpm, well over the recommended 4500-5500 rpm. It didn't sound like it was really screaming or...

Weight of empty trailer - 4x8' utility

OK, here's just a thought, would it work? Small 4x8 utility trailer, I wonder what it weighs. I'm going to guess somewhere between 300-400lb. But I'm a bad guesser. Would it work to get a ballpark figure to stick a bathroom scale under a wheel and multiply the result x3 because it touches the...

2003 Johnson 50hp - changing water pump, a couple questions

According to my service manual I need Adhesive M Sealant P/N318535, and Gasket Seal Compound P/N317201 to do this job. This is the first time changing the pump on this motor, but I've done one other one before. Is there something equivalent that I can pick up at NAPA? I'm about to order the...

Trying to find a boat cover that fits - real frustration!

I'm having trouble finding a cover that fits my boat. It's a 1964 Starcraft Jet Star that I renovated. Center length = 14'10"; Beam = 65"; with 16" high windshield and outboard. First I bought a cover off the shelf at Wal Mart, a Harbormaster Premium 14'-16', and it was too big (too long and...

Hollywood Video - Anyone else get a collection letter?

We got a collection letter today from Universal Fidelity, LP representing the legal successor of Hollywood Video saying we owe them $50.89. It listed 7 movies, 5 of which we never rented. Apparently they are trying to collect late fees. There was a story on the news tonight mentioning this...

More painting - Valspar Duramax Exterior / Sherwin Williams Duration Exterior

Just another one asking if anyone has used either of these two exterior paints & how you liked them. I used Valspar for one of my interior rooms and was pretty pleased with it although I couldn't get it to cover in one coat. I prefer Glidden for interior, but Valspar had them beat with color...
