My turn for a "New to me boat"

Yeah, with enough money, or a crew of guys to repair everything like the Navy or whoever, and you can answer almost anything.

My turn for a "New to me boat"

I hate the sorrow part. Had some tow vehicle starting (batt cables), depth finder (don't know; works now at home), and boat re-starting (prob carb leaking down?) woes this weekend. Nothing huge, but just enough to dampen whatever fun it woulda been. Happy 4.3L Cobra. The youngest of the 2...

Clutch Fan to Electric Conversion, 1997 Suburban

Just had the idea about that today as a possible fix for poor AC cooling in town. Once it's on the road it's fine, it's just the low airflow at stoplights and low speeds where it's not good enough. Sort of wondering if anyone's done it with good results, or if that'd be a thing worth trying...

1989 Bayliner Trophy OMC 5.8L - Help with new boat

Where's your Cobra decals? (lol). Form follows function...

Easier time putting on the trailer

I've only launched at one ramp, not too steep. I have what I'd call a roller trailer with some side guides (the boards with carpet thing) - a couple of larger center rubber rollers, and some smaller ribbed ones out to the sides. I tried the first advice I got which was to leave the tops of...

Baby oil... Learned that trick years ago and it does wonders. No more heat rash, lol. TMI...

    Overheated 1989 4.3 OMC questions...

Yeah I don't remember having any trouble with the fasteners, getting the old stuff off. And I used some anti-sieze on the new bolts. One thing that threw me was the left and right new style manifolds are the same part. But that's just how the 4.3L V6 is. Easy assembly, and a lot easier than...

    Liquid Cooled ICE Question

Ok, interesting points there. I assume (but don't know) the siamese bores thing is specific to the 400sb (like as opposed to a 350). Yes, it's been a while since it's been flushed.

    Liquid Cooled ICE Question

'75 SBC 400ci. 4-row radiator. It's in a P/U that gets maybe 1,000 miles a year. Weird question here, but I noticed Saturday that the radiator was full and under a bit of pressure when I opened the cap to check the coolant level (been sitting for a week). That radiator has a "Full Cold" line...

    Overheated 1989 4.3 OMC questions...

My thermostat housing looks bad (rusty), where the hoses connect. I've chalked it up to just how it is with a boat. Haven't had it off. Freshwater boat. I had an overheat in 2019 with the batwings, left side. We were on plane and I smelled something burning (rubber coupler in the exhaust...

Burning ~3 quarts of oil between changes

I tried 20W-50 once in my '89 GMC 4.3L for the same reason (only using about 3x that much), and it boiled the coolant. Back to straight 30 or whatever I have. That was given as an option in the owner's manual too. It's sitting in the driveway waiting for me to replace the slave cylinder...

    1986 seaswirl nightmare

86/88 Cobra, 4.3L. I did the shift adjustment once, when changing the lower cable. STILL hard to get out of FWD. Doable, just not real pleasant. Forgot to check shift rod height (not blaming that, just including it). I manage it by turning the boat off as much as is practical, to pull it...

    Top Speed Of Our Boat?

Over 2 1/2 years ago and this thread is familiar. Doesn't seem that long ago. If things (carb) were set up for 4,900' and that's taken to 1200', it'll be lean. How much will it matter? Idk...

    Battery...

Replaced impeller and housing yesterday evening (did not test on the hose! lol), plus a few other items like greasing gimball and wheel bearings, etc. (messing with drive water plugs too... another thread in OMC section). Had it to the lake today, and it never got over 160F or so if my gauge...

Cobra. Plug on Left Side of Drive

I saw it (the Cobra emblem is missing on that side), but I never mess with it... I think I'm probably good for this season (when/if I finally get it out on the water), but Idk if I need a longer screw or retap the drive for a different size or what, in future.

Cobra. Plug on Left Side of Drive

What's the worst can happen if that comes out underway? I think it communicates with the cooling water passage (right there where there's a plastic piece that can be turned 90 degrees at a time when you're trying to position it properly, when the drive's off?) so you'd lose part of your cooling...

    Battery...

Metal part was twisted in the housing such that about half the ports were covered for intake and exit. I've ordered it AGAIN. I have another good rubber part, and metal part, but need the housing, really, since it got hot.

    Battery...

The fact that there was smoke initially isn't good. But that was with the water ON. I replaced it last year after the first event, but I still had trouble with running it on the water hose after that. I think I even opened it up and looked at it again. It ran nice and cool on the lake...
