    Propshaft Thrust Washer Direction 1963

Motor in signature. Which way does the thrust washer go that sits between the reverse coil and the gearcase head? I see that the washer looks like steel on one side and a copperish metal on the other. I would imagine that the copperish metal would be the bearing surface and should go against...

Upper Driveshaft Bearing Carrier 1963 75hp

Motor in signature. I pressed out the seal and bearing from the upper driveshaft bearing carrier today. I have the replacements parts and my goal was to press the replacements back in. However, I noticed that the top part of the bore where the seal goes has a few nicks. It may be okay to...

    Installing Forward Coil 75hp

Motor in signature. The manual says that there is a special tool for installing the forward coil in the gearcase. I can't find it for sell anywhere, so I'll try to use something else to drive the coil into place. Has anybody else ever used something other than the OMC tool for doing that?

    Reverse Shift Coil 1963 75hp

Motor in signature. The reverse coil looks like the epoxy is pitted and cracked in a few places. The ohms check out at 7.9 ohms and I believe that the wire showed 12 volts when the engine was together a few years back. Because of the ungodly price of these coils, I'd like to reuse this one...

    Gearcase Head Screws 1963 75hp

Is there anything special about the gearcase head (commonly referred to as the prop shaft bearing carrier) screws? I see that they have separate seals under the heads to seal the gearcase, but they seem like ordinary screws. They are part #308211. My screws are ok, but they have slotted heads...

Advice on 1963 75hp Water Tube Bushings

Hello. My motor (in signature) has brass water tube bushings (#305468) with an o-ring. The impeller repair kit that I bought includes a rubber bushing (#310372) and o-ring. Can the brass and rubber be exchanged? Anybody ever have specific problems with either one? If the original brass...

Used Prop Head for 1963 75hp

I'm looking for a used gearcase head for the motor in my signature. I have a new seal and bearing already. I just need the head. I'm rebuilding my motor and I could reuse my head, but one of the 4 ribs that project from the prop side of the head has broken off. I believe that this should not...

Electric Shift Front Prop Shaft Bearing

Motor in signature. A special puller is required to pull the front bearing at the tip of the gearcase cone. I don't have that puller and it would take more effort than it is worth to come up with an equivalent puller system. Seloc and Clymer both say that heating the cone and tapping will...

    Removing Stern Bracket Pivot Pin

Motor in signature. Just making sure that the pivot pin does indeed press out. I'm having a heck of a time getting it to budge. Perhaps I might heat the bracket up a bit. Any other ideas? Thanks.

    Pulling Pivot Shaft Bearings

Motor in signature. Does anybody have a good way to pull the pivot shaft needle bearings from the swivel bracket? I borrowed a gear puller with the "fingers" and it may have worked well but the fingers are too large to get more than one inside the bore. Any advice would be great, especially...

    Bow Seat Cushions

Hello. I'm renovating a 1969 16' Scatcraft (no longer in business) tri-hull. When I bought the boat, there were no seats/cushions in the bow section. I would like to either make some cushions myself or get them made by an upholsterer. Perhaps I could build the backings and cut the foam and...

What parts in water pump kit #379769?

Hello all. I'm going to order impeller repair kit #379769 tomorrow. I'd also like to order all of the other parts that I will need for my gear case rebuild as well. However, I don't want to order individual parts that are in already included in the repair kit. I see the kit listed on some...

Missing a few pages from manual 1964 75hp

I have a 1964 75hp Starflite manual. I just noticed that I'm missing page 4-8 and 4-9 from the Ignition System chapter and 6-8 and 6-9 from the Lower Unit chapter. Could somebody please scan those pages and send them to me? I know that this is copyrighted material, but I do own the book and...

    Painting a 75hp Powerhead

First of all, I'm a lousy painter and always have been. I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm also not afraid to tackle jobs that I'm not so good at. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger... I'm repainting my 1963 75hp Evinrude Starflite. I want this project to turn out well both...

    75hp Starflite Water Bypass Cover

1963 75hp Starflite. So I put my powerhead back together and I left off the water bypass cover because I'm going to paint it a different color than the block. Now I realize that I may not be able to screw in two of the bolts that hold the cover down because the upper crank head is in the way...

    75hp Driveshaft Seals

1963 75hp electric shift with 5" extension. So I'm soon going to open up my LU for a rebuild. I've been reading that early designs called for a single driveshaft seal at the water pump housing but that later designs incorporate two seals, one for pressure and one for vacuum. Am I...

Lower Crank Head Retaining Screws 75hp

1963 75hp Starflite. When I took out the 4 screws that attach the lower head to the retainer plate, it looked like there were simple o-rings under the heads. However, I've read that the screws don't have regular o-rings, but some kind of sealer under the heads. Has anybody ever used regular...

LU Rebuild 1963 75hp Starflite with Extension

I'm rebuilding my entire engine and my next task is to look at the lower unit. It is an electric shift with the 5" extension. While it was running, I was getting milky lube after every trip. Is there a seal kit that contains everything that I need for the LU? My parts manual only lists...

Crankcase Bolt Torque 1963 75hp Starflite

I just want to double check a torque spec. My manual says 12 ft*lbs for the main crankcase to cylinder bolts and 5-7 ft*lbs for the smaller bolts around the perimeter of the crankcase. This seems a bit on the low side to me, so I want to be sure that I'm reading the correct numbers. I have a...

    75hp Starflite Wrist Pin Retainers

The retainers that came with my .020 OS pistons are the type that don't have any hole for gripping with snapring pliers. They're basically steel wire wound to a semi-circle. I honestly don't know how to get these into the grooves without a whole lot of cursing, searching for dropped retainers...
