Prop Walk, need a possible solution.

Maxed the boat out going from 115HP to 150HP on a 17' boat. A little squirrelly, but not bad at all. The issue he had, and why he asked me to test drive it for him was that it took Popeye to steer the boat to port . He ended up getting a lawyer to make them put the proper 25" shaft outboard...

    Been a little cold.

I was stupid and plowed the drive before the precipitation (snow, sleet and freezing rain) ended Sunday night. Left the drive with 1/2-3/4" of snow with a glaze of ice on top. Even 4WD is having problems getting up the drive. Not a bag of ice melt to be found in a 50 mile radius. Above...

Prop Walk, need a possible solution.

My neighbor had the same issue when the marina mounted a new 20" shaft outboard on his 25" transom boat. Other than that, a very common issue on a bracketed boat since the thrust hits the transom.

    Kicker Motor

Buying a kicker to save fuel while trolling makes no sense when you think about. Horse power is horse power. It takes the same amount of fuel to generate X horse power no matter the max output of the motor. The only difference is the efficiency of the technolgy developing the power. A 4...

Maybe my turn for new boat time

Last boat had bottom paint. Current boat does not. Believe it or not, the bottom paint was far easier to maintain. Used BottomKote paint. If the paint was stained above the water line, hose it down and hit it with a scotch-brite to reveal fresh paint. The problem with the no paint bottom is...

Trailer wheel bearings - standard or stainless

Bearings and seal numbers are for the most part standard sizes. with some odd ball, proprietary sizes thrown in Pull the seal out and look the part number up in a bearing and seal interchange catalog. It will give you a number of different seals/manufacturers to choose from One other thing, do...

Trailer wheel bearings - standard or stainless

Stainless bearings….no thank you Won an all expense paid trip over the Memorial Day weekend to replace 8- stainless bearings that failed a month after commissioning the equipment One of our engineers thought SS bearings would resolve a rusting problem the customer experienced with the previous...

Opinions needed - Risk of Changing Thermostat

Must be from out West….locally, we crossed the 100 year mark almost 100 years ago. The two of the three wealthiest individuals I know owned landscaping businesses. The third owned a HVAC company.

    Battery cable

Primary reason is flexibly. The conductor of 12 awg Romax is 0.080” in diameter. The conductor of a 4 awg cable is 0.200” diameter. Imagine wiring a house with 3/16” bar of copper

Opinions needed - Risk of Changing Thermostat

Wouldn’t blame it on the kids.. blame it on the education system that decided vocational education was a waste time and money. My high school had auto repair, auto body, welding, electronics, cosmetology, agriculture and Business related training. Many people, myself included, took these...

    Boating GPS

The ability to update “over the air” does not exist, per se. The WiFi on the unit is an access point. You still need a means to connect to the internet via other means

    Just curious

Sounds like many of the tall tales told by First Mates over the years. Live lining bait rig…3’ long dropper line tied 3’ above a heavy snap swivel. An egg sinker of suitable weight (3-4 oz.) goes on the bottom. Works great anchored or drifting

A buddy owned a plumbing supply company. Gave me a couple of cases of commercial "bacteria/enzymes" treatments to put in my septic system. Never thought much about it until we sold the house several years later and the buyer wanted the septic tank pumped. The septic guy came out, popped the...

Don’t get me started on the engine and electronics manufacturer’s use of proprietary communication protocols (messages) to lock you into their brand…..lol Your chartplotter utilizes NMEA2000 which was developed as a marine “industry standard” protocal to allow end users to mix and match...

Hard to hide something out of square when you have three parallel lines for comparison. No one will notice once you get something on the wall to break up the optics As a design engineer, the lack of symmetry with the cabinet layout and the window bothers me more.
