    Yes. In 1990, the 9.9’s and 15’s both used the same exhaust tube and reed plate shims. Carb and decals are only the difference.

    Starting Motor Bad?

    If you jump the starter directly w/good jumper cables from a good battery, it should spin fast.. even with plugs in. If it does that, check all your wiring. If it doesn’t, you have a bad starter.

    Use a magnifying glass to look for a crack in the plastic carb top #10. That will cause a lean idle issue.

    Pre-telltale motors have a small bypass in thermo housing so water always comes out ‘blubber’ hole, acting as telltale. So your test would show water exiting exhaust chamber on those..

    When thermo is closed, no (or very little) water exits exhaust housing. Also, running on muffs doesn’t test waterpump function. Test in barrel or lake, and when head temp warms to 140ish, thermo opens and water exits powerhead.. most of that water exits with exhaust through prop, and some gets...
